1981 KZ1000 CSR for $2000? was created by apearson
Hey fellas. New here. And new to motorcycles. Looking to buy my first bike. Found this and wanted your opinions on it.

denver.craigslist.org/mcy/1959472053.html

I've looked at the bike and ridden it. Runs very strong and is very clean. He did a great job fixing it up. Seat is original (he says) and there's not a tear in it. Some scratches on the round cover on the left side (derby?), but that's it. Gas tank in great shape, no rust, dents or scratches. Is $2000 a good deal?

Thanks.

Alex

That is a nice bike and in good shape, but $2000 is a bit generous I think.

If the bike looks as good up close as it does in pics, plus no rust, runs good and has good rubber,2k aint a rip off by any means.offer him 1750 and see what happens.scratches on the stator cover are common if u forget to put the kickstand down and dont have engine guards (ask me how I know this). It sticks our farther than the rest of the engine.bj

Yea I live in the area and that is not a bad price for a clean one. There are a lot of worse stuff listed on CL around here for around the same or more. If it is all serviced, tuned good, good tires, newer battery, good chain & sprockets, and has the cosmetics in good shape then that would be reasonable.

Nice looking bike... The handlebars are not stock, but you being tall, that should work out better anyhow.
The price seems high to me... When I bought my CSR 1000 in 2006 the guy was asking $1600 and I didn't pay that either.

As far as the value of the bike is concerned, the bottom line is, whether the enjoyment you will get out of the bike is worth $2,000 to you, or whether the same 2,000 would get you something you would enjoy riding more.
Best of luck,
Grant.

grant rides his on long rides and would know this bike!!!

if the bike is as clean as it looks?,has lowmiles?,no reg issues?,seat and tires and instruments not tattered ,and no oil leaking around on the ground, and the oil is somehwat clean in the viewing window then...shit yeah buy it...you can get get 2000 back in few saves and you'll have a killer start(great bike) to a lifetime hobby/sport!!!
plus you wont be buying a bigger bike tweo or three more times when you get comfortable, this bike will grow into your skills and beyond....
that is a clean one,for sure!!!

now if you do get it(later but important imo) ease off the controls and mirrors and the 4 bolts that hold the bars....rotate the bars back and down a tad and then rotate the swithes and levers and mirrors till they feel right and dont "hit the tank" when turned all the way left or right...that is why he has him jacked up like that...they are fighting the handling set like that imo so they dont knick that sweet stock paint but thats later...and tire pressure and reading some recomended reading and a really good helmet, shades and gloves and.....BUY IT!!!!!!

If it's as nice in person as in the pics, and if it runs well, I think $2k is pretty fair. You might offer a little less, say $1800, just to see if he has some wiggle room in his price, but finding another that nice at that price might take a while. Ed

Just wanted to follow up on this.

Thanks to everyone that replied for all of the help and advice. I felt a lot better about the bike and went with it. Drove it home last night. First time I've ever ridden a real motorcycle, i.e. not a little twist-n-go motorbike. And on major roads. Have to admit I was just a little nervous, but loved it. Can't wait to get out there and cruise around. B)

Thanks again for all the help.

Congrats on the buy! I have 3 recommendations: 1. Take a rider's safety class; 2. Buy a Kawasaki factory service manual (they're available on eBay - be sure to get the one for your exact year/model), 3. Buy a couple quality torque wrenches (it's far too easy to strip the threads in the aluminum engine without them) Get the manual before the wrenches because the manual has torque value tables that will guide you on what scale wrenches to get (you'll need one INCH/LB and one FT/LB.) Best of luck to you and please be careful - things happen very quickly on a bike. Ed
