Kz1000 vin?? was created by manover21
Hey all! I'm trying to identify the year and specific model of my KZ1000. The engine and frame have two different vins. Is this common??

Yes...check www.zedder.com to see if your numbers fall in the known VIN ranges...if is still confusing, post your VIN's and one of us will explain the nuances of VIN translations.

Okay, the engine VIN# KZT00AE-077891 and the frame VIN# KZT00B-518338. Any help would be great. Thanks!

The frame and motor always have a different number. The frame number is your vin. Just by the vin # you have an ltd. Thats what the B is.

I checked Zedder's and the engine VIN# matched a 79 A3 MKII. Does that make it an MKII??

The frame number says the bike is a 1979 KZ1000B3 (aka LTD)...the motor may not have been originally married to the bike and does fit in the MKII range...HOWEVER, just being in the 'range' doesn't necessarily make it a MKII motor. There have been a number of discussions on this site regarding what constitutes a 'MKII' motor. I counsel you to make a list of those attributes and the next time you have the engine apart, check those attributes.

If it truly does have the MKll motor in your 79 LTD. that's a nice upgrade as the 79 LTD's had Z1 style cases and cranks. BTW, any Z or KZ motor from 73 to 80 will fit in your frame.

79 KZ 1075 MKll
79 KZ 1500 MKll dragbike
Gone but not forgotten:
3 X 73 Z1's
1 X 74 Z1A
1 X 75 Z1B

Yes me too, please help I have an engine code of kzt00ae087226 and a vin of KZT00B????2685 (not sure on digit amounts) and that's all I can read. I'm thinking it's a 1979 Ltd but both provided links didnt work for me. Possibly just reading them wrong. The title mirrors the engine number not the frame

Kz750 (81)
Kz1000 (79)
3 Kz650 (2-79's)
1 650 CSR for parts

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.
