Antique Motorcycle Insurance? was created by jonnygorman
Bike should be ready for the road by the end of this week so I need to start tracking down insurance. I live in texas and thought maybe someone might have suggestions regarding companies and antique bike insurance, if there even is such a thing.
Thanks

I would think some insurers would offer such a product. Here in BC, our government owned insurance provider offers several levels of collector insurance at a fraction of the cost of regular insurance. Mind you it is still expensive compared to private insurance in the US.

I've seen ads on TV for Alstate motorcycle insurance here in the US. It might be worth the time and see what they want for a years coverage.

The trick with antique vehicle insurance rates is that they require antique vehicle registration and while relatively inexpensive in Texas, really restricts the amount of riding you can legally do. So, if you plan on riding a fair amount, then normal registration is the way to go. Minimal mandatory vehicle insurance in Texas (Liability only) is what ken said ... US$75/year ...Progressive Insurance for a 1977 KZ1000A...which is what I pay

I am not an insurance agent, so please take this as someone who has been there...
I only insurance my finished bikes for Comprehensive insurance - collision and theft replacement. This is the costly part.
All bikes get liability which insures you against damage you incur to someone else and their property. If you have any assets, such as a home... please keep this in mind when you get the limits of your insurance. If your bike gets away from you and hits someone or their property, you will need to pay to fix it. Some state have relatively low minimum liability limits, so "you" them become responsible to pay the damages out of your pocket... or savings... or home... after your insurance is maxed.

Arizona has this type of insurance...
Limited to 2000 miles per year. Price varies with insurance company and what options you want on the bike such as stolen, wrecked, liabilities etc...
You still have to get it emission tested pending year of bike.
All in all, it wasn't that much cheaper to go this route.

Another Progressive customer here in Texas. They seem to have a minimum cost of $74 per year for liability coverage. You can increase the coverage 3 more levels for the same $74.
I have 250k/500k/100k liability coverage for my 76 KZ900 at $74.00 per year. My daily rider 85 GPZ900 costs $86.00 per year with the same liability and added comprehensive with a $500.00 deductible.

I guess I would be forced to ask... how do they value a 1985 motorcycle?
For me to get coverage for my bikes older bikes that I have $10,000 invested in, I had to get 3 estimated valuations. Wasn't hard and they were accepted with no question, but always curious as to what arguments the insurance will bring up if a claim is presented.

My agent just asked me how much I wanted to insure my bike for. I think that it says something like the "agreed value" as in I agree to pay for insure on some dollar amount, and they agree to give me up to that amount if it gets damaged.
