Just bought a KZ900 what do I have? was created by bhardy501
I just bought either a 78 or 79 KZ900. The Serial # is
Z1F 099100. Its a complete back but partially disassembled. I gave $200 for it and it has lots of good parts. Can someone tall me by the serial # what I bought? Is this a good buy? I dont have any pics to post right now.

From the info that I have it appears to be a 1973 Z1.
Frame serial #'s Range Z1F-00001 - 19999
Engine serial #'s Range Z1E000001 - 19999
Color - Candytone Brown.

Thanks dont have engine code right now to compare, havent gotten it home yet. I did a little research and found the 73 info but not the other info you posted. Thanks.

I dont know does she look good with everything else you got? Can you ride her when you want to? Does she mind if you ride others and leave her in the garage? How well has she been maintained or is she gonna be a money pit with no chance of recovering your investment? lots of questions that make you think.

Frame number tells me it is a 1976 KZ900A4 (see www.Zedder.com ) ...no idea if it is a good buy without seeing the motor number and pictures...but it probably is if it is complete.

Yes, this is an early 1976 KZ900.
What you should do is sell it to me for $400 and make a 100% return on your money!

Ok according to the site listed above the 73 900 has the serial number Z1F 000001-199999 and the 76 900 uses the serial number Japan MFR Z1F-085701 - 117060 and USA MFR Z1F-500001 - 510340
So with my serial number being Z1F 099100 it could be either a 73 or 76 how can I determine the exact model.

OK nevermind the 73 has 5 numbers in the serial number and the 76 has 6 numbers. So I guess it is a 76 900A4
