Looking for a relatively inexpensive jacket with good protection and stumbled upon these on ebay. It is made of PU or synthetic leather and just curious if it would be a total waste of money as far as protection goes. I live in texas so the summer heat may push me in the textile direction. Just looking for info and oppinions.

I am not sure where you live so I don't know how warm it gets there. Since here in Chicago we run the full gambit of weather, I have two jackets. I too like the protection of a good jacket. My cold weather jacket is self evident but it is my summer riding cloak I would like to talk about. Since It gets VERY hot here in Chicago during the Summer If I could I would ride in a Teeshirt. What I want is a garment that breathes the maximum possible amount while giving the maximum protection. What I have been wearing is motocross body-armor without an outergarment. The body armor is of mesh construction similar to a football jersey but it has all the protection of the jacket. I have found that it actually circulates air better than not wearing anything at all, due to the turbulence it creates around the protective shields. Now I ware it on any kind of trip I do more than a couple of mikes. The armor I Have is in the first link. The second link is the new replacement for it which will be released in June. The first review by Gray Ghost is me.

Besides It looks cool and it is different from all the standard jackets everyone wares. Because the shields are high impact plastic, you can decorate or pain them any way you want. When they start to smell. You can just wash them

Buyer Beware! I wouldn't buy anything from eBay that is located in and being shipped from China. I did that once and got counterfeit junk with no recourse. Ed

My all -purpose jacket is a "joe rocket" brand I picked up on sale at local Kawi dealer.Zip out lining for cold weather, breathable material with Kevlar armor at suitable places with vents for summer.Little hot on VERY warm days but otherwise ok.bj

I picked up a couple of jackets from ebay from jackets for bikes. I really like them especially for the price. They were both 100 bucks they are thick leather with metal ykk zippers they have the padding and a liner. I haven't worn it a ton but so far so good. Its jackets4bikes.com or something like that. The patterns are a little cheesy but some of them are cool. There is another seller on ebay that I have not tried but they have similar descriptions of their jackets and they have better patterns.

My jacket is an Olympia. It has good padding/armour, and zip out wind/rain liner, and zip out insulated inner. Makes a good 3 season jacket here in Vancouver. What really makes it stand out is the many zippered vents on the arms, torso, and back. You can stop up all the air flow or make it really flow through.

Why paint your helmet when you can just get a Simpson! ;)
