IT LIVES!!!

Gotta install the airbox and re-gap my spark plugs. a 15 minute job... i pulled the carbs off the see if the jets sizes were stock. i turned them upside down to empty the gas out that was in them so they wouldn't leak when i brought them in the house. when i did this, brown rusty crap poured out. So, i brought them in the house and check the jet sizes. 122.5 was stamped into the main jet. I gave them a blow with the airtank to make sure there were no blockages. I took them out to the bike and re installed them. I started it and it did it's usual idling at 4000RPM.
I loosened the idle screw a whole lot and the lowest the motor would go was 2500-3000RPM. I revved it once and it jumped straight down to 1500RPM. i revved it in amazement and the motor came right back down to 1500RPM when i let go of the throttle:D now it runs great. Its misfiring so i think that i need to re gap the plugs and maybe bolt the positive terminal all the way down on the battery because it was just touching when i did this test. I don't even have to use starter fluid when i start it from cold:) IM SO EFFING HAPPY RIGHT NOW!!! Heres a link to the youtube video

Good on ya Tim. Just think, some people would rather pay a mechanic to do what you just did. They are missing out on the pride you are obviously feeling right now. If you were old enough it would be time for a cold beer but for now I think a pop and a firm handshake from your dad will be just as good. You need to put your location in your signature. i am sure anyone who lives near you will be happy to lend a hand or join you for a ride when you are ready. right on man, good to see another younger guy out there gettin er done...Ya gotta learn early, ive been working on bikes sence i was 14 and 4 years later i find its a craving of mine, a craving to get off my ass and do someting in the shop..be it restoring bikes and cars, or just working on my bikes to make em better. It beats the hell out of video games!

I also listen to led zepplin, pinkfloyd, jimmy hendrix, and any other rock band thats not the geeky 80's stuff with the long curly girl hair:) i'll put my location in my signature right now.. I'm going to post pics off my dad's KZ1000, my KZ1000, the 76' KZ400 and my 1983 GS300L D model bike that i just got done rebuilding the motor on. i want to post a video of all of those bikes running side by side. Should be pretty awesome... I think PA stands for Pennsylvania so i don't live anywhere there but i would like to say thank you very much man:D

Tim, ya got a cool taste in bikes, and in music!!!

You figuring out those carbs on your own was "right on" - many an adult, would've thrown in the towel long ago...

Just think, this tinkering on bikes will lead to some good times in the future, and maybe a job that you'll enjoy getting up for every morning!

I wish me or my husband had an inkling of an idea when it came to all the mechanical stuff!!

He knows basic knowledge, oil changes, etc... and I am learning, but his "black beauty" 550A2 just took a giant DUMP and we are thinking it's something pretty major with the motor. :dry:

Now I am beginning to realize why it's IMPORTANT to have multiple bikes....so when one is broken down or tore apart you still have something to ride! :S we are looking for another ride for him now...

and Im with KAWTOY on the whole music thing! "dead to me!" baha! Though I am more of a Metal/Hardcore fan, I like to throw in a little old skool punk from time to time....
