1976 KZ400 cafe racer, should i go for it? was created by Kitten Tooth
I was looking at craigslist earlier and found this,
siouxfalls.craigslist.org/mcy/1715941586.html
According to her, it runs and rides. Is it a collector bike? Is it worth any money? I'm going to buy it if the motor is good. It even has a good title. Its already set up for me to come and get it tomorrow... She says she doesn't know anything about it but the fact that it runs good and rides.

Let me know,

I'd buy it if it runs good. Heck there is a guy here in Houston who has been trying to sell a KZ400 cafe racer for $2200. However, he has had it at that price for 1yr, and has finally started to reduce his price. I think the latest was $1500. Try to get it for $300 and bite at a counter offer for $400. It sure looks good for $500.

It sure looks clean, and if it runs good, it's a great deal for a sweet looking little bike. The custom parts on it are worth more than what the guys asking, so if you like the style buy it! :silly:

Based on your other posting "I'm learning"... I'd say yes for this reason....

Good little ride to hone your skills at what's coming at you regarding POWER young man... This will give you plenty of time for learning the skills required for safe riding.... The 400 is smaller, lighter and easier to control and a little slower.

That KZ1000 you're building is going to be a huge jump in power and speed. You're young yet and until you learn to RESPECT that power that comes with that old raw power KZ, it can be dangerous for the unskilled.

Unfortunately, Happens all the time... So heck ya, hone those skills with that little KZ400, take a safety rider course when you get your permit/license and enjoy a long life of the freedom riding brings to us all...

Do ya have it home yet? That will be one fun little bike you will be fond of forever. When I was 14 I had an old Honda CL175 that I rode everywhere and still have fond memories of that bike.

if there was three or four of your friends with em....and you had an old parking lot...some cones...and other real bikes for driving around..then sure get it and make a club racer ...crash bike.....but that thing will break if you try and use it for transpo.....the p.o may have it looking cool...but i bet it wont drive home..or much else....imho

I had a buddy who rode a real cherry kz400 for quite a number of years. Thing never let him down (except trying to keep up with bigger bikes on the interstate B) )

Oof. I just checked out that link and was thinking how awesome it looks, and how clearly somebody put a good amount of effort into it...

Then I read the rest of the thread...

Here's the deal dude. If you're comfortable with your manhood, and you want a reliable, easy-to-maintain, zippy, helluvalatta fun around-town bike... then that is an great deal.

If you have um... size issues... and you are easily bothered by arrogant comments from elitist bikers of all shapes and sizes, you'd better stay away from it.
