I found this '78 KZ650 on Craigslist. Drove out to the middle of the desert here in the Antelope Valley, and bought it today.
It's got a motor that turns, carbs, wheels and a good frame. Hard to say what else will be salvageable, but I'll pressure wash all the grime off it and will be able learn more.
I'm planning on turning this one into a cafe-style rider. I'll strip it to the frame and see what happens.

I wonder what those carbs are from? BTW, if those are original convex mirrors in good shape treat them kindly. They are in demand. Ed

Those carbs look like they are for an old CB750.

Those carbs are for sure not original 650. Look to possibly be brand H CB carbs from the same era, could be wrong on that though.

Plenty of guys looking for the rear seat grab rails if you take those off for a cafe style rear. Post them up on www.kz650.info and they'll be gone before you know it if you decide not to keep them on.

Yeah, nice find.
I think it's gotta be a '79 or '80 model though as it's got 2 bolt rubber mounted front pegs, drilled rotors, and lower case lettering on tank etc.
May even be an '80 C4 model which you don't see much of.
Post up the VIN # and manufacture date if possable.
And come and have a look at the kz650info site where you can check the #s.

Came with some nice extras too; fork brace, SW shocks?, case savers...

Is that a Saturn Sky in the background?
Nice car.

The frame number is KZ650C-027263. I think that makes it a '79 KZ650-C3.
According to 650 info, the color for all C3's was luminous dark blue.
This bike is light blue/silver everywhere -- Tank fender and duck tail. Must have been repainted or swapped body parts somewhere along the line.

Thanks to those that spotted the carbs. I just thought they were Kaw manufactured. Could'nt tell the difference. Looks like I'm behind on my 650 research...
