Well, today i bought my first KZ...
It's a 1981 KZ1000LTD. I got it for 800 dollars. It burns NO oil at all, the only things that need to be done is a carb rebuild, oil change, spark plugs replaced, and the valve cover gasket replaced as well. I bought it from a mechanic in moville IA who specializes in these bikes. He said he didn't prep it for storage, so the carbs need rebuilt badly... Thats a job im not afraid of though. Its the K body style. My only marks against it is theres no duck bill and theres no kick starter. The exhaust is stock and you can see your reflection in it. Theres a dent in the tank and it needs to be repainted. It really doesn't need much to be ride-able again. I'm gonna get the really old suzuki grips for it and if possible, a highway bar. Let me know if theres anything i should look for with this model of bike as far as bad stuff, i know the motor are bullet proof and the trannys are described as "clunky" but strong. Whats the top speed if its stock? I want to make it a mean ass machine if im gonna ride it. It's satisfying knowing you have a bike that could eat up almost anything else out there except for maybe the crotch rockets... I'll have pics as soon as i get it home, i have the title, seat, and an oil filter he included with it. The seat is made out of cloth on the top and vinyl on the sides because it began to crack long ago... Its comfy as hell:D
Thanks guys,
KT

I'll fix the pictures issue. The bike isn't at my apartment yet, i can't ride it because i have to change the oil and the carbs are so bad, well... pre-ignition and whatnot, The motor would blow up before i got it half way home:( I'll have pics most likely after this weekend.
Thanks guys,
KT

I have been riding these big Kaws since 1978, and this is the first time I have ever heard of anyone calling a Kawasaki transmission "clunky". The Suzuki was "clunky" but the Kawasaki?--Never. The "Duck Tail" was used for the last time on the LTD in 1980, and that was only on the Z1 "Classic" and than it was brought back in 1984 on the ZN1100 LTD.
