Almost got hit

So I almost got hit by a car on my ride home from work. Here's what happened:

I'm riding down one of the main drags in Memphis on my way home from work and I see a guy coming up fast in my rear view. I'm going about 5 over speed limit so he's easily going 15 over. I see him clearly talking on his cell phone in the seat of his big f250 so I hit my signals and merge over to give him some room. All of the sudden he merges over right behind me, no signal, no nothing. He's directly on my butt when he slows just a bit and I pull back into my original lane. I pee just a little bit

Seconds later I look over and I see the same guy now matching my speed, looking out his window and screaming. At first I assumed he was warning me that my headlight was out because I had had to stop early to fix a loose wire and I thought maybe it was out again. It took me a couple of seconds but I finally figured out that this guy is yelling obscenities at me. Cellphone in one hand, wheel in the other he is screaming "You dumb f*ing rider. You're a dumb son of a b*tch. Etc and so on"
So now I'm thinking, "Great, either I ignore him and and hope he's not nuts enough to swerve at me or maybe I pull over or something else... no real great options in my head if this guy doesnt just leave me alone."
A couple of seconds later I get to breath a sigh of relief as the car behind him solves the problem. It was a white ford explorer.
An unmarked police car.
The cop, who had apparently seen the whole thing, flicked on his lights and pulled the guy over. I went on about my business.

thats what that stupid shmuck needs to bring him back to reality,you handled that better than i usually do! :laugh:

Yeah...sometimes the a-holes do get what is coming to them.

You handled that real well. I used to be scared of myself and some of the boneheaded things I would do, but a driver with a cell is a real problem for everyone.

I think I would have to turn around and coming cruising by nice and slow and wave at the guy with a big smile!

As much as I'm with ya in driving bye and flipping him the bird....

Naw, he did the right thing... Put on the blinders, get out of there way, ignore it so they'll go away....

Way too many crazies out there these days... Non thinkers with guns that just don't think and in a lot of cases, just don't care... About you or themselves for that matter...

As much as I would have enjoyed driving back to taunt him, I've found that the drivers in Memphis are truly crazy. Any city that has to put up billboards basically saying "It's not ok to shoot people" (seriously, there is one near my house that says "Chill, don't kill") is not a good place to test your luck messing with people who already seem a bit off kilter.

Talking on a cell phone while driving has become illegal in a town near me. I'm sure this idea will catch on...

yeah i try and let it go...you did well...i am not gonna take on someones bad energy....i was getting mad alot a while back at folks trying to kill folks with their driving...but it was just me after they drove on and i was all wound up now....finaly i been better at seeing myself getting revved and can let it go....screw em they get theirs sooner or later...for sure...cop got him!!!! hahahaahhahahaaha.....


i figure if i get involved with some assholes problems...i might get killed...they might get killed....might be a crazy criminal...gun totting looney....go to jail for assult....and all because they're having a bad day....no thanks...bye bye

Just read the post about talking on cellphones being made illegal. Is this a wind up?
Over here in the UK the use of cellphones while driving has been illegal for at least 3 years. Hands free is still OK but in my opinion that is debatable as it still takes away concentration.

I think it is still OK to send text messages while riding a motorcycle as long as you are wearing riding gloves :laugh:

Yeah, cells are illegal in most if not all Canadian provinces too. Some people can deal with it and not get too involved in their conversations, but most people can't do that, and are dangerous.
