Thinking to start a new project. Go for it??? was created by cobura
So i finished rebuilding my z650 that i picked up in october. Now i find that i have too much free time on the weekend and wish that i could be turning wrenches again. At the same junkyard i bought my z650 at, i found a bike that probably not many of you have every seen before. If it was sold in the US, it was well before my time and there are not many of them left, the suzuki gsx Katana. I found one here for about $400. Low miles, but no spark. Could be a bad harness or could be bad coils. The good news is that parts for this bike (in japan) are cheap and plentiful. What do you think? Am i safe to assume that the problem is most likely something easy to replace such as the coils or the harness?

I can remember them from my youth.
Never had one myself, so can't give advice on the bike overall.
I did like the styling, and IIRC have become desierable.
I saw these at the motorcycle show recently:

I remember them well. That is the first bike to lean away from the Universal Japanese Motorcycle design and was the begining of wrap it in plastic.
I can remember me and some friends riding two strokes at the time discussing the "Space Age Design" of that bike
Check out the GS forum.... there are a few members with that bike over there

C, I would, That model Katana was avail. here in the states (I believe,in both a 750, & 1100.)& If I recall correctly .for '81-82..( And engines swapped easily.) The GS 1100 engine (16 valve) Had/has enormous potential..And i've always felt was stunning in appearance. luck g

there was a 1100 ,1000 , and 750 kat available in the states in canada there where 1100's and 750's. it was a great bike and is desired by alot of collectors a freind of mine has 4 of them the motor is awesome same engine as the gs 1100 standards and is still being used as the basis for some of the fastest dragbikes and salt flat bikes in the world. i wouldn't hesitate i'd build it in a second if i could get one. nice bike to ride as well like being on a big comfy fast couch. next to my kawi's my favorite bikes hands down. lots of go fast parts around and in japan they made them up to 2002 i think so most stock pieces are still current.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. It has always been one of my favorite bikes as well, based solely on appearance. I think of it as kind of the delorean of motorcycles with its crazy futuristic features and silver color. In japan, it was also offered in a 400cc and 250cc model. I have a choice among with engine size to go for. I am actually thinking to go for the 250, just because it would be something different and engines under 250cc dont require the very expensive bi-yearly inspection that i hate so bad.

everybody always tells me how ugly they are, and how they cant stand them..... But for some reason i want one SOOOOO bad i can taste it. They always catch my eye, and since it has the 4v suzuki powerplant that makes it soo much better.
