Generally they are not a good deal...
Sadly the 750 and 850 triples had a host of problems - and they are very difficult to get parts for.
Around here, they often popup on CL - but no one seems to want them as the same ads will often appear for multiple weeks.

Cool, just wondering. I have a line on a 750LTD-4 that might be a better option. He says its over-revving, sounds like I might get a KZ750 for cheap because he doesn't know how to clean or properly set up his carbs.

Never really considered buying a Yamaha before but I have seen this 1979 XS750 for sale here on Ebay in the UK.
Low mileage and looks to be in good condition.
Price at the moment 375 pounds, I reckon I would go to about 650 which is about $975.
Stop Press
Just spoken to the seller on the phone and he will accept 500 pounds ($750)
What do you guys think?

Got the bike and a great bike it is!!!
I love the sound of that triple engine.
Done a lot of research on this and the main downsides are small fixes anyway- vacuum petcock leakage and jumping out of 2nd gear.
Well impressed so far!
More pictures to follow and the ride results.

I heard from a former owner of a Yamaha triple that the center cylinders were very prone to overheating.

I had an XS850 triple for many years. Great bike problem free. Very comfortable to ride. I would buy another in a minute. I watch them on ebay and the triples are starting to get some good money and they have a good following...Russ
