I've heard some of you guys like to see photos. These are from my ride from Vancouver BC to Calgary AB (2000 miles) last summer. The pics were taken in Washington, Idaho, and Montana.
Enjoy (I'm a computer dinasaur, don't know if the pics will show up),
Ross

I guess the pics didn't make it. I'll try again later when my son can come over and help.

Ross,
I don't know what you do for a living, but if you're not a professional photographer you may have missed your calling. Your pictures are amazing! Thanks, Ed

650ed,
I do surveying work for a civil contractor. The photos were taken with a point and shoot Cannon PowerShot. When taking pics I use "the rule of thirds". Divide your frame horizontally in thirds using imaginary lines. Do so again using imaginary vertical lines. So what you have in your minds eye is a picture grid. Place your subject at one of the intersections of the imaginary lines. Try not to place the subject dead center. For instance, place the eyes of a face in the upper third. You'll see this in every scene you see on TV, people are never in the center of the shot. When taking scenery shots, place the horizon along the upper third latitude, and perhaps a shrub or other item along the lower third latitude. Practice a few times, and soon it becomes habit.

trianglelaguna,
I didn't take a fishing rod on that trip. I was headed to a wedding, and had a lot of extra stuff I normally wouldn't take along. Not having a luggage rack made it difficult to secure packs onto the bike, so I left optional stuff at home. I was really kicking myself for that a few times. One night I camped at a small mountain lake where I was the only person for miles around and the lake was thick with trout. But I had nice bath and skinny dip. For a visual, imagine Mr. Burns naked. I will be doing a similar trip next July/August and will definitely be bringing my fishing tackle.

Galactica,
Thanks for pics. My favorite ride so far has been the Crows Nest Highway east to Osoyoos. What was your route?
Have I seen your bike at the Oyster Run?
I also spent many happy years behind a transit/theodolite/total station.

switch,
I grew up in Lethbridge and my wife is from Victoria, so I have driven Hwy 3 (Crowsnest) too many times to count. Much prefer that route to Hwy 1. But if you get the chance, try Hwy 20 in northern Washington. It changes to Hwy 2 thru Idaho and Montana. Less traffic there and the riding is fantastic.
