The traffic on Hwy 1 is light but there are 3 areas where the Hwy has collapsed and there is only a single lane to drive on. These areas have traffic signals that control traffic in one direction, hold opposing traffic still and so on. All of these areas are within 10 miles of Lucia to the Big Sur area and you can expect some delays as traffic backs up.
We rode it on a Saturday and experienced 5 minutes or less wait times to get through these areas.
Watch out for fallen rocks in the Northbound lanes when you navigate the corners.
Best of luck.
Grant.

You will see more traffic from Malibu to Ventura, then it will thin out considerably.
I live in the area so P.M. me for my cell number. If you have problems in our vicinity I have tools and might be able to help.

Bill called me this morning from Malibu. Says the ride is going well... He will be driving up the coast road this morning.
Best of luck Bill on the remainder of your ride, be safe.
Grant.

Absolutely, bring the clutch cable, (past experience).
Never liked that fix-a-flat stuff.
Prior to my trans-continental round trip in ‘88 I found a, very compact, tubeless tire repair kit. A small plastic box which contained a tool for inserting a soft rubber plug, several different plugs, a tube of adhesive, two CO2 cylinders that were slightly larger than the type that pellet guns use and a tool to fit the cylinders in to inflate the tire. Carried that kit with me on every trip for years. Thankfully, I never had to use it.

Never rode down the PCH. Every time I went South, I went out through the deserts.
I did travel up HWY-1 from Santa Cruz to Seattle on a Yamaha 650 in 1981. It was terrible! The Oregon coast had a gale wind coming in off the ocean so you rode along a straight and level road but leaned over fighting the wind, and freezing fogs that hung in till noon, or later and could penetrate every layer of clothes that you put on. When I hit Coos Bay I turned east on Rt-42 and was riding warm and comfy from then on. Oregon’s coast may look pretty from inside a cage but I don’t like that wind and cold fog.

For those who have seen my previous post under ‘road trips’ I am almost done writing about the first part of my ’88 trip from the west coast to the east coast. I'll post it as soon as I can, as Part 1, under the ‘Articles’ section.

Enjoy that road trip. And bring the earplugs or you will be hearing the wind, engine and road noise in your head for two days after you get off the bike.
