unless your riding in the wet all the time not really needed. the o-ring and x-ring chains are so good at keeping the oil or grease in the between the pins and bushings nowdays i wouldn't bother with the extra expense or the mess that happens when you use a chain oiler.if your using standard non-oring chain then it may be a good idea.

Yes, I have one on my FJ1200. They do work, but they also can make the rear wheel very dirty. One of my friends used one and got over 50K from one chain and sprocket set.
You should also look at a Hawkoiler, its a push-button chain oiling system. I like the idea of controling the oil flow myself.

I'm not really into carrying any weight that I don't really have to.
Like said, the chains out now are fantastic, and last a good long time with minimal maintenence.
A blast of PJ1 clear chain lube once a week/250miles, and your good to go.

Yeah im with you on that But i use Bel Ray white chain lube. It is a 'DRY' Lube and makes less mess than conventional sprays. Besides, checking your bike over and oiling chain gives you a chance to become more "intimate" with your machine and spot possible problems before they appear!
