I just picked up this 1976 KZ650. It is SPOTLESS!!! with only 10,025 miles on it!
Just wondering if anyone can tell me if this is a stock (original) color scheme. I couldnt find it in kawasakis archives anywhere.
The paint looks original and is probably a 9.5 out of 10. This bike was stored in the desert (garaged all of its life)
If you have seen this paint scheme before, Please let me know if its original. I wouldnt be surprized if it was.
Thanks in advance!!

Yes that is the stock paint scheme for a 79 650 B which is what it appears to be what you have. They did not start selling 650's until 77 and looking at your engine it is correct for a 79. The 79's were also available in red as well. Nice find!!
WOW Thanks Gringo!!! You're good.... I actually typo'ed and said it was a 76... It is actually a 1979 model.
As I walked up to it prior ro buying it..... My jaw dropped when I looked under the seat and did a walk around of the bike to find it in almost showroom condition!!!! NO dirt anywhere and the paint shined like NEW! He was actually selling 2 of them... apparently they were originally owned by a father and son... they were identical except the other bike came with a touring fairing and a touring seat. The other one had twice the miles...and a dent on the tank...but other than that...looked almost perfect as well!!!! I am kicking myself for not buying the other one as well. I emailed the guy when I got home to see if it was still around and he already sold it before I got home.
Well, I got the better of the two bikes and I am stoked!!! I opened up the gas cap...took a look inside.... and it LOOKED BRAND NEW inside!!!!! all of the fluids had been drained including the brake master cyl. I added some oil.... poured in some gas....hooked up a weak battery that was too weak to start the bike with the starter... I put the petcock on prime.... took two kicks with the kick start and it fired right up and freekin sounded like it just rolled off the showroom floor!!!!

Where do you people find these bikes?? That is beautiful! Nice score dude!! But didn't 79's have mag wheels? Oh, and buy the way.... that is the wrong seat so you need to send it to me (I'll pay shipping) and get the proper one!! :woohoo:

John there were 3 different 650 models made in 79, the 650 B came with a rear drum brake and a single disc in front and had spoke wheels. The 650 C had mags and triple discs and the 650 D or SR came with triple discs and mag wheels with the rear being a 16" diameter. Come to think of it I've got one of every 650 model made in 79.
The bike I posted the pic of is actually an 80 F model which should have mags as yours does but this is the way I got it and since the spoke wheels are in nice shape I'm going to leave it as is. I bought this bike off ebay a couple of years ago it still only has 6189 miles on it.
Actually I think that the seat on the black bike is the correct stock seat IIRC they changed the seat cover style in 79 from the way it looked in 77 and 78. The only non stock items I see on that bike are the grips and the rear shocks.

This is my 4th KZ650 and I thought it should have come with mag wheels as well, but both of the bikes had wire wheels on them and the previous owner told me that one recieved the tour package and the other recieved the sport package at the dealership. Mine (the sport) has Koni Adjustable rear shocks that are black and blue and they look like they were just taken out of the package.
Here are some pics of both of the bikes together side by side. He took the fairing off of the touring bike.

Levi is there any way that you might contact the seller of your bike and find out if he might still have the bracket to that fairing? I'm thinking possibly the buyer of the second bike didn't want the fairing and I'm hunting a fairing bracket for a 650. I bought a Windjammer III at Mid-Ohio this year with the intention of installing it on one of my 650's but I still need to find a bracket.
Hi Andy,
You have PM!
Hope you can pick those mounts up! If I would have bought the other bike...they would have been yours
Looks like this one that I got will be staying stock... No cafe conversion for this one :woohoo:
