Asinine Z-Resto opinion

So I put my KZ650 up for sale today. It was a total basket case which require me to rebuild the entire engine, as well as wiring everything and installing everything on the entire bike down to the last nut. Someone else got to the thing before I did; in fact, it looks like a dozen different people with a dozen different ideas got to it before I did. But hey, I traded an old guitar for it, so I had to work with what I had.

When I was done, it looked like this:


Needless to say, I didn't paint anything, or do any of the other "custom" work on it. I did do the seat, because it was just foam and plastic, and I needed to cover it so the foam would quit breaking off in pieces. It runs great now, and I need the cash, so that's why I'm selling.

One of the emails I received was this:

"Jonnie...are you white? I hope not because no white man would do that to a decent motorcycle."

The email was received from Bob Harrington of Z-Resto at this email address: 76kz900@bellsouth.net

Apparently, Bob, restores gauges and other things for Z1 Enterprises. I just wanted to get this info out there, because Bob is clearly a very racist human being, which I highly resent, and I don't see why anyone would want to be a patron for such an individual. Anyone else have any issues with this sleezeball?

Ha thanks. This is my first bike, and I just got married and had to go as frugally as I could. I'd prefer a stock-ish cafe racer, but when I get a box of crap, I can't go buying new/used parts to put back on that aren't necessary for it to run well. I just don't have the funds.

Ya got a 4 into 1, paint it flat black. get some fenders from anything close, boggar em up, and paint them flat black!

Bob is from Georgia where they still fly the Confederate flag with pride, that must explain his reply to the ad. Doesn't make it right but thats how it is sometimes in the south. All Southerners do not think like that but there are a few diehards. Nice trade for a guitar by the way.

Also, doesn't take much to throw him off. He must only look at tanks and seats to judge a bike. If its not clean and shiny it must be crap.

I like the bike. To me you went about it the right way, focus on the important things like getting it running right then clean it up as you go. No sense having a pretty bike if it doesn't run. Once you get the time and money and get the tank and seat straightened out, it'll be great.

Either way, the comment has nothing to do with buying or selling a motorcycle, and should never have been posted in the first place.

The First Ammendment is supposed to protect people from the U.S. Congress, but says nothing about insulting, bigoted jerks. He may have a right to hurl insults and make uncivilized statements, but then certainly the rest of us have the right to call these slime bags out. Sure, we all have to have a thick skin to get through this life and we should not be running around making mountains out of mole hills, but if we desire a more civilized society, then we have an obligation to do more than whine or call names.
