bike registration
05 Oct 2009 05:17
im a newbie, a beginner, a tadpole, or even a grasshopper. call me what you will but i think i might have made a big mistake. i bought a motorcycle in 05 and never registered it under my name. i immediately tore into the bike completely disassembling it and redoing it from the ground up. so that title has been sitting dusty somewhere for four years. what happens? will i be nailed with a huge fee for bringing it back to current?
1982 Kawasaki KZ 750LTD. i wanted the big boy 1000, but there's like a billion of these 750 ltds running around. so what the hey!

I don't know where you reside but I believe here in California it would be "out" of the system by now. After a certain amount (your's may vary) of time a vehicle is dropped from the DMV system and I believe you start fresh. Call your local DMV for more information.

Here in Indiana you pay an extra fee of around $25 for having a delinquent title when you go to transfer the title to your name, but other than that the procedure is the same as if you had transferred the title on the same day you bought it.

Heck, here in MD, it doesn't make any difference how long a title, hasn't been updated. I've got 2 signed titles,'79 XS750 '67 Sunbeam Alpine, setting in my drawer waiting for me to finish rebuilds. No sense re-registering until it's ready for the road.
'82 KZ750 CSR, M1 twin. Mac 2-1 exhaust, K&N pods, 17tooth drive sprocket, Mikuni BS-34 carbs w/#47.5 pilot jet and #125 main jet, Canadian XS650 needlejetjet needle, Wired George's coil mod.

Here in AZ, no late fee's or crap like that...
Took the non running KZ to DMV for title change ($4) where they just confirm the vin numbers... The bike was out of Nevada and hadn't even been registered since 1985.
2 years later after re-build, go through registration process where here (until July 2010) you must go through emission...
Each state is different and you can look the requirements up on the web...
