Hey guys need input. Got a line on a 77' 650 Custom in blue paint scheme (always wanted one) Being sold by original owner. 15,000 miles. New stuff includes: battery, o-ring chain, grips, and mirrors. Has a Kerker 4 into 1 header, electronic ignition, and individual carb breathers. The valves were just adjusted and the carbs tuned. Looks really good in the pictures he sent me. He wants $1000 bucks. Sounds like a decent price to me. The only problem is it's 8 hours away. What do you think? Tom

That is a hell of a drive. Your looking at an all day drive to get there, motel room for the night and then another all day drive to come home. It would be a real drag to spend all that time and money just to go see a bike that may not be as nice as it seems. I would do a lot of talking with the seller and would like to see more email pics from various angles. Have him reasure you that the trip is worth it. If the bike is truly as nice as he says it is, $1000 is not out of the question. See if he'll knock off a little for the long trip? Maybe he can meet you half way? Your looking at maybe a couple hundred bucks with gas (great mpg truck!) motel, food, etc. I would want to feel real confident driving out there... ;)

I'd want a short video with sound of the bike idling, running at speed, etc. before I made that kind of investment in time and $ on a trip. This is easy to do with a digital camera. If you do go, be sure to drive the bike for a while before you decide. Ed

Great idea Ed! I didn't think of that! Video would be nice...

PS, also.... see if he'll let you spend the night at his house. It's the least he could do...:P

For the price and in assuming it's as clean as it seems, and for the fact these are getting harder to find any longer, worth $1000...

Considering fuel prices, hotel, food and a long 16 hour ride... just have it shipped for <$500...

Just a thought....

I wish we could see the pictures. $1000 seems like a good price. Problem is there's a lot of garbage out there that guys claim are mint. I see this on ebay and craigslist all the time. 8hrs is not all that long of drive. Being the cheapskate I am, I'd drive there and assuming the motorcycle is puchased, just drive back home and make it in one day.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
