I'm looking forward to this endurance ride starting Aug 15 at 2AM. By the time it's over if I'm able, it will be over 1100 miles by the time I get home in one day. Only 300 miles of interstate, the rest mountain roads. This is going to be tough. It's been a long time. I did these rides 4 times on the old KZ1000. Should be easy(er) on the Goldwing. Anyone want to do it, go here.

Well, this you ride alone at your own pace, so I'll still be alone most the time I'm thinking.

Are you doing this for Iron Butt Association stuff? i have done two, a 1000 in 24 and a 1500 in 36 hours. in my opinion it is a lot easier to make time when you are by yourself. i am sure, ron that you know how to do long distances. the big thing that kills is the gas stops and associated butt rubbing and as soon as you have to wait a few minutes for someone else you are wasting time, gas and go is what you have to do. I use my Electra glide for most of my long distance rides, but i did use my BMW for the 1000 mile ride. the goldwing will be a good choice. have fun and be safe.

Thanks guys. I could get the Iron Butt certification if I wanted, but I'm just going to do the ride. I rode the goldwing on a 250 mile ride last Sunday over part of the routt and it did real great and got 47mpg too. I should be able to stretch stops to once every 200-250 miles.

Good luck and have a safe trip. That's a lot of miles. I hope the weather cooperates for you. Stay hydrated.

I rode about 650 miles in a day in scorching temperatures in Spain back in the mid 70's. I was so dehydrated I never realize until I got halfway through the trip and realized I hadn't taken a bio break.

Thanks, I read quite a bit on the dehydration thing. I think I'm part camel as last time I did this I rode the entire 1000 miles without eating, drinking or going to the restroom. Never removed the helmet the entire ride. Of course this was 1990 and I was kind of strange back then, not now though.

when i crashed it was to dehydration. you don't realize when it is happening to you. i have a cup holder that is on the handle bar that fits a 20oz cup. i drink it every 170 miles and every time i stop i fill it up. i drink constantly and make sure i piss every time i stop. oh and lots of snickers bars :) and red bulls not bad either.
