Insurance costs for your ride... was created by racer54
I see lots of guys and gals here have multiple rides. Another thread has been showing how much to register for plates. Now...what does insurance costs for ya? For those with more then one bike, do you have some kind of plan that insures all the bikes for one amount or do you have to insure each bike individually? Seems like some of you with 3-4 or more bikes would be living in a shack trying to keep insurance on all those bikes. I have State Farm insurance and haven't checked how they do it but am fairly sure it is each bike on it's own which would cost the national debt of a small country to insure more then a couple bikes. Which unfortunately is where I would be. LOL So...what is your situation and how do you do it?

I have to have separate policies for each bike. Costs run about $500.00 per bike per year for large displacement bikes such as my Mean Streak.

racer54, PLEASE check with Progressive, Dairyland or GEICO. State Farm is a great company for cars, pickups and homes, but when I have shopped for motorcycle coverage, SF was multiples higer than these other companies.

To your question, my KZ is unisured at the moment because it is scattered all around the garage. For full coverage on my ZRX and my wife's Ninja 250, we spend just over $700 per year. It is one policy, but the bikes are listed and priced individually. It would cost even less, but for an unexpected get-off I had a couple of years ago.
It would alos be less in a less densely populated county.

I have Progressive for my car and motorcycle. $175 a year for full coverage with roadside assistance and a stated value of $2500. That's just for the cycle.

In Denver for the kz1000 with Geico it's $100 year full coverage($500 ded). The 650 is not insured at the moment but it would probably be the same. $100 is the minumum premium with Geico for a bike.

i had Progressive when i crashed my Harley in 04' and i will NEVER recommend them to anyone for anything. i was minutes off the flight for life laying in the emergency room and the adjuster was trying to get me to sign a settlement, well it was more like four hours later, but still! my friends told me my bike flipped about five times landing on the top everytime pretty much destroying it. it was one year old and cost 18.5K. he said there was 6k in damages and that i should sign the settlement. I paid to ship the bike to wisconsin to have my local dealer do the estimate and the bike was totaled. Progressive was very difficult to work with. i now have Geico and so far so good. i also only insure a few of my bikes. i would go broke trying to insure them all.

I'm in the Dallas, TX area, I'm 27 years old, and I have a 1980 KZ1000. I'm insured with Geico and it runs $100 a year. I did recently get a quote from Dairyland and they quoted me $76 a year, so I'll probably be switching to them. This is for liability coverage only.

Happy shopping!

Here in Florida you do not have to have insurance on a motorcycle unless it is financed. No insurance might not be the smartest thing to do but is legal. If you wreck and its your fault your screwed, especially if you do damage to someone else. If you wreck and the other person is at fault you better hope they are insured.

Foremost Insurance is the lowest price I could find.
$251 for 3 bikes all year in Chicago. They are all 550's. That's less than $84 per bike.
I think just one of the three would cost about $150 to $175, though. Unlike State Farm, they give discounts for multiples. State Farm apparently thought I could somehow ride three bikes at one time and charged me full price for each.

you americans have it sooooo easy! I pay more a month than some of you guys do per year! last year I paid 1100 for my 550, this year I have a year of insurance history so I got insured by Jevco (a small canadian bike insurance company) for 1052$ for my 1000LTD. the lowest price I can look forward to is like 500$ when I am old and grey!
