1982 1000 LTD fuel economy was created by 9am53
When I first got my 1000, I expected some poor fuel economy compared to my 550 (which was awesome on gas!), and initially I was averaging around 7 litres/100km, which is like 33 MPG. This is what I expected and cursed the dinky fuel tank. Since then I have changed the oil and filter, and changed the plugs, wires and stator. Since I am getting stronger spark now my fuel economy has really improved to over 40 MPG!

My round trip is 80 kilimeters, I usually fill up when I hit 200 kilometers, and put in between 10 and 11 litres. I do drive the speed limit mind you, but still, most of my non-commuting ride is 2-up now, and I still get 40 MPG, I'm impressed! just wish I had a 20 litre tank!!!

My stock 76 900 with stock 26mm carbs gives me 36MPG. The trip to and from work is about 50/50 city/highway driving. highway I usually do about 70-75MPH city has quite a few lights and is true stop and go. What makes the difference are the BS34-CV carbs they are very fuel efficient and still deliver about the same power as what a set of 31mm smooth-bores would give. When properly set up. I took my 81 1000CSR and made it to represent a 82 GPz1100 (at this moment the motor is still stock with the exception of the exhaust and carburetion.)

now I wonder how tearing apart and cleaning my carbs would affect fuel economy. has anyone ever tried using something like the "tornado" that used to get advertised for cars? or would smoothbores kind of create that swirling action.

this past weekend I got 49 MPG on a long cruise I took...this motor is really surprising me! I like how it gives you the potential to be pretty good on gas, but still scare you when you want
