I am so excited! I received my eBay purchase today and it looks awesome! I found a 1980 Kerker pipe that has never been installed - it's chrome and perfect. It has all the hardware, paperwork, sticker, and "Kerker Kicks Ass" button too - never opened!

What makes this rare is that it's the true competition system that doesn't have the extra bends for oil filter / drain plug access. I really love the looks of this system and have never seen one on eBay. My brother had a black one years ago that we let get away and I've been looking for a long time. Just wanted to share - hopefully I'm not the only Kaw-geek that gets excited about stuff like this! I just love when that brown truck stops at my house! :)

Nice find. The new ones always get all the dirt and crap right at the bend.

That is a find! What did you pay for it? If you don't want to say, PM me as I really like to keep track, in a general way, of what these sorts of things cost.

I don't mind spilling the beans - it was $321 plus $30 shipping. I thought it was decent when compared to the $600+ they charge now for a new style chrome pipe. With this pipe being brand new and no longer made, it's worth more than a new one in my mind. It wasn't really advertised that well and the auction ended during a work day, so I think that helped to keep the price down. Here's a link to the auction:

That's great. You'll be glad you got the comp pipe too. The regular Kerker that bends around the filter is worthless on a KZ1000. I put one on my MKII back in 1983 and it was on there for 50 miles and back to stock.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

The seller didn't even mention that it was new - he added that after. I would have had a real big "NOS" in the title! I don't think too many people noticed what it really was. The bottom looks like it might be dented in the pics but they are just reflections. When I asked about the condition and he told me it was brand new I was really hoping to get it.

I really don't care for the new style bendy pipes either, but I have to tell you, they still sound really good. I have that style on my 78 1000 with a comp baffle and it sounds a lot better than the V&H on my MKII with a comp baffle. I measured the collectors and found the kerker to be quite a bit larger (2.25 compared to 1.75). It seems to give it a much deeper tone. I think this new comp pipe will sound as good or better since the pipes are more straight. I always loved the Kerkers but just couldn't like that bendy stuff.

Now I'm just afraid to acutally use the work of art! I hate the thoughts of bluing that brand new pipe! I also scored a Yosh not too long ago for the MKII. Now I have some choices to make - I sure wish I had a dyno to play with...

Well that sucks! Doesn't seem fair to punish all of us. Oh well, back to the headers...

One thing I'm a little worried about it whether or not this Kerker will look OK on my MKII since I built it drag race style and not road race style. The sidewinders just don't leave enough clearance for RH turns so I went with the V&H street pipe. Hopefully I can try it out soon and I'll get some pictures posted.
