I have had this helmet since the mid '80s and am in desperate need of some new shields. I've searched the internet and called Simpson but new ones are not available anymore. Anyone know of a source?

Thanks,
SB

That is very strange since Simpson still makes the Bandit. I have been using nothing but Simpson since 1979. The problem you will run into is that the shield will cost you about $60. I replace my helmets about every 4-5 years and have just bought a new Simpson Furry. They had a special for fathers day which i just couldn't pass up.

I think the problem is that the current model has the notch around the nose and has been that way for a while.

Are seriously saying that you use a 25 year old helmet as protection

Well, they say that a helmet should be replaced in 6-8 years...I guess it´s better that nothing though:P

The Simpsons were made out Kevlar even back than. The shells do not deteriorate like the FG shells. The inside liners do fall apart though. The Street Bandit visor should fit on this helmet. It has no cut out for the nose.

The pics I have pulled up online for the Street Bandit show the notch for the nose as well. Is this a recent change?

I have picked up some of the name brands off the shelf that are light as a feather, then see the made in China tag and can't help but wonder how safe these things really are. I'm sure there are brands that are safe, but for now I'll stick with something that feels like I have some substance on my melon.

Meant no offence, Sabell :) I just think that the last thing to save money on is the helmet. I think Rossi, Stoner and others don´t use 25 y/o helmets though :P

all the Voyager series and all the Shark series have straight shields without the nose notch.

Things get lighter. The weight of a helmet does not necessarily mean better protection. Fact is heavier puts your neck more in jeopardy. As for Chineese helmets just don't put them in or near your mouth.   :S

I have an old Arthur Fulmer halfshield that I cant seem to give up. Have not used it in 10 years. My regular helmet these days is a Shoei RF1000, light weight, vented, and made in Japan like my bike, not China. B) B) B) B)
