I may have a chance to trade my 750 either straight up or with a few hundred on either side for a 79 KZ1000ST. I do enjoy my 750 and have it to the point where I think I'm mostly finished working on it but it would be nice to have more power for longer hauls and if the 1000 was more valuable in the long run...

Opinions?

My 750: top end, carbs, petcock all rebuilt, new pipes, adapted a kz900ltd seat to replace the K&Q that was on it, new forks & triple tree and a fair bit of work, picture was in motorcycle classics mag :P

The 1000: has new tires & batt, fairly low miles (25K, not sure if its miles or km), and supposedly runs strong. I would be replacing the pods with the orig airbox, etc and converting it to a naked bike so there would be a couple more bucks thrown at it plus any possible other problems & general cleanup

Edit: looking closer at the pics it looks like there are also some aftermarket shocks on the 1000

Tim I'd make that trade in a heartbeat if for no other reason than the 1000 has a lot more support available when it comes to getting parts. That bike looks to be in fairly nice shape although it looks like it has been overloaded at some point and the tire rubbed through the rear fender. I'd say those are miles on it not klicks. Besides you know you want another project or you wouldn't be hanging around here.

I'd say do it too. If for no other reason that looking at the nice job you did on the 750 I'd like to see the 1000 get the Tim treatment. Looks like the old gal could use some TLC and them sure are purdy all gussied up.

you'll miss the twin for a bit but soon the pain will fade into memories the st is a very smooth powerful touring bike and a great all round ride you will enjoy it of that i'm sure, take it from someone who rode twins for years.
