I'm sure some will question the sense in this kind of ride, but a man by the name of John Ryan set the official record from Prudhoe Bay, AK to Key West, FL on a Yamaha FJR1300. Heres a few copied details.

John left Prudhoe Bay at 0055 EDT Saturday. At 0555 EDT his location was 345 miles south of Prudhoe, giving him an average of 69 mph average over the most difficult part of the entire route. A subsequent track about 20 miles later confirms the average speed. It isn't possible to travel much faster than that over such terrain (100% dirt and gravel). He cannot help but be pleased by his start.

He will reach pavement within the next 90 miles, taking a lot of the strain off both the rider and the machine.

John is going to attempt to break the record for traveling on a motorcycle from Prudhoe Bay, AK to Key West. The current record is 96 hours and 1 minute. He is going to attempt this on an FJR 1300 that already has 138,000 miles on it.

After a long and tough time dodging tornadoes, hours of mud and gravel as indicated above, lack of sleep, food and general rest

John entered Key West today at approximately 3:15EDT to SHATTER the old record. Total time(not time riding but TOTAL time) 86 hours 31 minutes.

John's bike is a 2005 (I think) Yamaha FJR-1300, which was purchased new by him. It now should have over 150,000 miles on the clock. John started his Iron Butt career on an inherited '94 (I think) BMW K75, which now has almost 200,000 miles on it. John Ryan is, I think, a 1960 model.

Speed stats:

Based on around 5600 miles, that comes to an average of 65mph overall average, and 72mph moving average.

Sleep stats:

86 hours trip time = 3 days and 14 hours. "Sleep" time was reported at 8 hours, which comes to 2 or 2.5 hours of sleep per 24 hour period.

However crazy this must sound, the man accomplished it. Id call it quite a feat to say the least.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

John is now back to NJ. So you leave NJ and ride to Prudhoe Bay, AK to start the big ride, then 5600 miles in 86 hours to Key West then back home to NJ. What a ride. I read a little more about the guy and he's done it all, finished the tough Iron Butt Rally, then attempted the Prudhoe Bay/Key West ride last year and was a "miserable attempt" at 101 hrs. Also the tough iron butt 1500 miles in 24 hrs. No problem for John on the FJR. He did it 3 days consecutive, and not during any on these particular rides, also 1000 miles in 24 hrs just riding around Manhatten, NY however that it possible? Someone asked him how he rides in bad weather and his response was "The worse it is the better I like it". What a Rambo of the motorcycle world. Sorry to be overly pumped here, but have to say the guy is probably the king of long distance endurance currently, if not the king of all time.
