best shop manual was created by 9am53
So I was on evilBay and other internet based shopping malls, and have been looking for a shop manual for my 1982 kz1000 LTD. I am comfortable doing most simpler things, oil change, plugs, carbs, etc. and feel comfortable enough to tackle new projects on my bike (going to have to change the stator soon). What manual (Clymer, Haynes, Factory) would be best suited to someone of my wrenching savvy?

Does anyone have one that I could buy from them for less than 25 bucks?

Thanks

I would buy nothing but a factory manual. Even if it was a little more $.

"Does anyone have one that I could buy from them for less than 25 bucks? "...

There are several web sites I have come across in the past that offer pdf versions of the FACTORY Shop Manuals to download and print from for around this price.

I don't think you'll find anyone here that will argue that OEM Shop Manuals are the way to go... ;)

Now just a useful little tip here... When you get your manual, regardless if OEM or 3rd party for any manual is better than none, read and study it...

Almost forgot, Did I mention STUDY IT!!!!

Leave it in the crapper and actually read every single page, read the manual numerous times from start to finish, more than once, & you'll be surprised just how much and how quickly you'll learn the intricacies of your bike.

Ok, I'm done....

I use both a Clymers and Factory manual together because the Factory manual is written in a way that assumes you are a shop mechanic and will "know" to do certain things in the process of fixing your bike. I'm not a mechanic by trade. The Clymer may give a bit more detail for the home mechanic like me. On the other hand the aftermarket manuals can get the facts and steps twisted around and the pictures aren't very good.

I think if you have to get one vs. the other, get the Factory manual.

Good point Kent...

I as well have the factory which I mostly (99.9%) use but I also have the Haynes for my 900. When I come across it, will get the Clymers revision. The more the better. ;)

As for the pdf revisions, I have the KZ1000/1100 shop manual as well for a vast majority of components are the same between the 900 & 1000 series.

All in all, get your hands on what ever manual you can and study it well...
