I am considering buying a Dewalt 18v cordless impact wrench, does anybody have experience with it?

www.tylertool.com/dewalt328.html

I mainly want one for lugnuts on the car wheels and the few times I may need it on a bike, like for the removal of that fork damper bolt. I have a line on a used (almost new) wrench for half the price of a new one... but if it can't do wheel lug nuts I won't bother. 300 ft/lbs of torque sound like plenty, but advertisers like to stretch the claims. Lug nuts only need about 100 ft/lbs, is there a way to adjust it on a tool like this??

Thanks

I haven't used that one, but electric or battery impact tools are great for removing lug nuts. However, use a torque wrench for installing lug nuts, not the impact tool. Impact tools WILL overtorque lug nuts! My best friend didn't believe me on this fact until he rung off the 3rd lug on his Ford F150. Black & Decker makes DeWalt and these are MUCH higher quality than the tools marked Black & Decker.

I don't have a cordless one. I have a cheapo Chicago Tools one from Harbor Freight and I love it. Definitely worth the investment. They have sales on them all the time and you can probably get it for around $40.00. Awesome investment. 650 is right about the torque wrench on the lug nuts.

The company I work at uses all DeWalt tools, and I like how they can be rebuilt, that's why I was thinking about it.

I'll take a look at the el cheapo corded electric tools too, as I think I'll only use it 2-3 times a year at most.

I have the dewalt 1/4" impact driver and love it.
It amazes me how this impact can take off most lugnuts without snapping the 1/4" drive. I plan on getting the 3/8" drive impact later.

So a 3/8" impact wrench is plenty for loosening lugnuts?

Will 3/8 be able to remove the fork damper allen bolt, or a countershaft sprocket nut?

The 1/4" impact driver is rated at 97 lbs of torque.

I have that exact model Dewalt electric impact. It works great. Don't bother with 3/8" or 1/4" impacts. Stay with the 1/2". I don't know the torque rating vs a good air tool, but I'd guess the air tool is stronger. This 1/2" Dewalt will remove stubborn lug nuts, front fork allen bolts, front sprocket nuts on motorcycles with relative ease. You don't need to worry about overtorquing when reinstalling unless you hold the tool on there for 2 minutes. Tighten with the torque wrench after the impact tool, you'll find the impact tool did not torque the bolt fully.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
