Not a big deal I suppose, but I had a GL1200 Goldwing my dad bought new I've been fighting constantly for several years to keep running. As always I started it up last week and it ran like crap as usual, so I put it on Craigslist for $2000 as it's junk. Looks good, better than most, but not all that great, runs not that good. I get a few calls of the usual "what's the least you'll take?" Well it's worth $2000 so thats what I'll take. Finally a guy comes out saying how he wants to tour with his buddies, just sold a Yamaha and is really thrilled with the GL1200. Nice guy gives me $2000. Now 1 week later my GL1200 is on craigslist for $4500. "Like new, never ridden hard, never in the rain, best in the entire universe. bla, bla". Kind of pisses me off as this bike is not all that. Guess you need a degree in lies and deceit to sell for a decent price in todays market? I should have sent it to the crusher.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I guess I can't be sympathetic as you sold it for what you wanted and didn't take less. At that point it ceased being your property and it became his to do with as he pleases which ranges from riding it off a cliff to listing it on Craigslist for $4500. Now, if he sends the new buyer back to you for help when it quits, you have every right to laugh in the guy's face and shake him down for a few hundred bucks.

I used to see that nonsense at ham radio swapmeets all the time. Early in the day there would be a small group that would lowball people out of their choice stuff and then an hour or two later it would be on their table for 20-50% more than they paid for it. It's just the way some people make a fast easy buck.

There are people doing the same thing with houses.

Buyer beware.

That's why I like ebay. I once needed to sell a paintball gun to make it to a tourny. I thought it was worth about 300 bucks, but no one locally was interested. I got 225 on ebay... not what I really wanted but a fair price.

On the bay, things will go for around what they are worth... and sometimes good things go cheap (rarely) and often some junk goes through the roof.

bought it because I was told it would never run again...I like to prove people wrong.

I bought a 82 CB750 on Friday night and I am sure the seller will feel the same as you when he sees it listed on CL. He told me that is has never run right since he has had it. He only put 14 miles on it. He sold it a few weeks ago to a buyer who paid before even seeing it. The buyer returned it because he said it wasn't running right. The guy I got it from just wanted it gone. He showed me the receipts for a carb rebuild, fork seals, new front tire and a new battery for $650. He asked if I wanted to ride it and I said "as long as it runs I will take it". He started it up and I knew what the problem was right away. He was asking $900 but I got him down to $400 and I took the bike home. The next day I started it up to confirm what I thought the problem was. Yep, only running on two cylinders. I put in new plugs (which he gave me) and it runs like a champ. I put 30 miles on it yesterday and I will be listing it for $1600 later this week. I am sure he will think I am lying to make a buck but when I say "Runs like new, blah blah blah" it will be the truth. The bike only has 5,001 miles on it.

That's a nice score Shane. The way I figure it is, if the guy is too lazy or stupid to change 4 sparkplugs then he deserves to take a beating on it. Good on ya.

asking 4500 and getting 4500 are two diff things....if its running like crap and he gets 2500, the next guy will think he got a steal...i just sold my 97 explorer on there for 750 bucks..
100k and looked sweet untill ya got underneath...starting to rot pretty good...i made the guy look underneath and know what he is getting...he said i ll take it...he looked, i took the cash and said good luck to ya (to myself)..i can sleep at night...

I appreciate it when I buy something if the seller is honest about the hidden flaws. I always sell that way because that's the way I want others to, but I guess that logic doesn't fly. What gets me is this guys out and out lies in his add. One thing he says is "never been ridden with a passenger". Not a major thing, but the motorcycle had 60,000 miles on it and my Mom/Dad was probably both on it for at least 55,000 of that. Makes claims out of the blue sky about all kinds of stuff. I don't mind the fact "maybe" he got it running right and definately could get more money, but those claims that are all made up is what bugs me the most about the whole thing.

Most folk will let you down no matter what the situation. To expect people being honest nowadays is fuedal at best. Society has crumbled so far that even being honest is a chore for some. I guess you have to believe half of what you see, and none of what you hear.
