There was a Champion Spark Plug employee that used to be at all the big AMA bike races back then.
If I remember right, Bobby Stallmen(?)was his name. You would bring him your spark plugs after a plug chop. And he would tell everything you wanted to know about what was going on in your motor just by looking at your plugs!!! Thats where I learned how to jet, and read spark plugs.

Only thing missing here is to look for that .040 to .080 ring of black soot down around the bottom of the porcelain insulator. Lean is Mean!!!!! D.Gamma

I just saw again after a long long while the film "On Any Sunday" and there was a part in there about Dave Aldana (he of the skeleton leathers fame) racing when he was 17. Caught it on Netflix and there is a lot of good fun stuff in that film....definitely worth a view
