Will someone who has hardtailed their KZ305 please give me their opinions on the ride quality of the completed bike? I'm debating on doing this to mine as its cheap and easy with my fab skills, but since it's my first road bike I don't want to make it unsafe by doing so. Any advice on doing this or not?

Well.....
I stretched and lowered my 650 with a hard tail and put a spring seat on it to compensate. Without the springer seat anything more than a trip to the corner and back would be very um…painful for someone over 30….and I’m way over that.
After some work the bike handles nice and tracks straight, but that said if I had it to over again I would do it differently. I think I’d build a frame rather than destroying my perfectly good stock frame. The bike was worth more stock than it is now and if I want to go back I’ll have to find another frame.
To make sure everything was straight and square I built a frame jig and measured over and over until I had every dimension memorized before I cut anything.

My first question to you would be, what kind of shape is the bike in now? If it's in good shape I wouldn't touch it. It is becoming harder and harder to find nice, unhacked bikes all the time, even the smaller ones are starting to fetch pretty decent money.

Second question would be why do you want a hardtail to begin with? This bike already sits low and has a semi-chopper look to it so what are you going to gain? As CSRchopper pointed out the bike is worth more stock. I'd have to say best to leave it be.

Well in the past I've rode hard tails a lot. I used to put a larger back tire on and never ran it at full pressure. That way the tire was part of the suspension. Some folks will scream about that but I got good mileage from the tires and never had a problem.

Hard tailed an old Yammy and rode it for three years that way. Went on a 600 mile trip one day to play poker. No problem from the ride but I did freeze due to a late freezing blowing in. Started the trip on a nice 70 degree day and it was 12 degrees when I got the the poker game. *ouch*
