93 KZ1000 police special: good deal for $2500?

This morning I saw a 1993 KZ1000 police bike for sale for $2500. I called the guy and he says he is the third owner, the first being the police, the 2nd being a retired police officer, and then him.

I have always lusted after one of these bikes and I am really interested but I don't want to buy a lemon.

The KBB value for this guy in perfect condition is $2000 ( www.kbb.com/motorcycle/retail/1993/kawasaki/kz1000-police/71822 ) so I'm thinking the price is a little high.

The bike has reportedly never been dropped, its got just over 16k on the odometer, and it looks in good condition. Not garage kept but pretty good. It apparently runs great. Gunna test it out this evening.

What do you guys think? I just got my tax return so I can put some cash down but if I am going to be sinking a lot of money into repairs I need to get the price down.

You can pretty much take the KBB and throw it in the trash especially when it comes to this bike, their information is worthless. According to them a 99 model should have 43,100 miles on it. Most police bikes remain in service until they hit around 60,000 miles or so. This looks like a pretty nice low mileage bike and if anything is priced under the money. For some reason even high mileage shagged out cop bikes seem to command big bucks. I'm not telling you you shouldn't try to do a bit of bargaining but quoting the KBB will only make you look like an idiot. Based on what I've seen the asking price is not out of line.

A 93 with 16K? Grab it. These bikes normally sell with a minimum of 25K on them. That bike will last you a looong time. Just give ie the once over and see if you can ride it. And please don't be the douchebag fake cop. Nobody likes it. HAHA.

Heh heh nope, I bought it and stripped the fairings off. I've got a drag bar on order and am looking for a way to put regular foot pegs on it so I don't have to monkey with the floor boards. Great bike though!

i've always wanted one just so i could tow one of my drag bikes to the track with it i can just imagine the look's i'd get that would be so cool one day i'll do it i know i will. oh and they are a real cool bike and good to ride.
