zephyr 750? was created by bergie207
Hello All,
Long time subscriber (2004), first time posting. Im looking to add to my garage. I still have my first bike, a kz 440 as well as an 06 vstrom 650. I love riding the 440 around often more so then the strom. Long story short im looking to buy another older bike. Found a completely original 1982 Yamaha 650 Seca in town in decent shape with about 15k on it. But then I found a 92 Zephyr 750, priced about right with around 6k miles on it. Really liking the Zephyr. Anyone have any experience with these? Im liking the looks, power etc. I just want something I can ride a lot and not worry about. Any word on reliability/ what to look for. I checked out several videos on youtube, and most of them sound like they tick while running... is this normal, or do they have valve issues etc?
Any help, info, advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!
Brent

Not sure about reliability on either bike, but I say go for the Zephyr. They seem harder to come by and have a very unique style and look to them. If it rides anything like my kz750, you won't be disappointed either!

the zephyr are very similar to the kz's the ticking you are hearing is probaly the primary chain they all seem to do that at idle, there based on the kz's so there most likely pretty dependable, some members on here might have first hand exp and will chime in

IIRC, that Zephyr motor is the great grandson of the KZ650 motor....and the father of the ZR7S's motor....so it should be pretty much unburstable in stock form. No comment on the styling but to each his own.
Just a word on the brand y nail: IF/IF it is a YICS engine (the engine covers will be marked as such) then unless you have the special YICS carb port blockoff tool you will NOT be able to balance the carbs correctly. A word to the wise.....
