if your bike is not running right or will only stay running onchoke[enrichner] or if it is hanging up on idle it is because of fuel that has been left in your carb's over the winter please remove them and clean each and every jet orifice and passage with spray carb cleaner and blow them out with compressed air right away.count how many turns in until seated fuel and air screws then remove them so you can clean them too one word of caution please pull out any orings washers and also slides if you have c.v carbs as the carb cleaner will affect the rubber also use eye protection as carb cleaner hurts like a bitch when it gets in your eyes. if you have any fuel coming out of vent lines or the float bowls them selves it is yourfloat valves[needles and seats]don't waste your time and any body elses just break down and by new our newset bikes are around 25 years old these things don't last for ever get a hold of sudco f you need parts try to use the oe manufactors parts this one area that the aftermarket sucks at buy mikuni or keihain parts for your own sanity please if you have any questions at all feel free to e-mail me but my fingers are tired of typing the same thing over and over so i'll take a break now the fuel nowadays goes bad after about 4-6 weeks and will evaporate in the bowls leaving behind a greenish varnishthat can and will plugup everything. good luck and i hope everybody that has carb problems reads this if not i'm sorry for your luck. thank you for your time. i'm spen

If your still having problems you can also send them to Wiredgeorge carb service as well. He does an outstanding job on these old carbs. Good post. Lots of unseen winter problems for you guys to the North.

man, i hear ya. Earlier i just had problems with runaway idle and throttle slowly shutting down after i let off the gas. Pulled the carbs today, pulled the jets and sprayed through them. Cleaned up everything, and still have the same problems:angry: Using new 92 octane gas. Atleast once a week i get a sticky float or two. I guess its time to break down and buy new parts :( .

eddiem so hows the eye working is it cleaned out good that carb cleaner is good stuff it cleans pretty much anything it touches, hurt like a bugger doesn't it. thanks for the kind words guy's am just trying to save everybody a bunch of greif one other thing i should have added is before you even try to start your bike after stoage is at least drain the gas out of your carbs, smells good doesn't it ,not fill them back up if nothing ugly has come out and then try starting the bike. if some bad stuff comes out of the bowls then just resighn your self to the fact the carbs will have to probably come off. goodluck one and all. may your carbs be gunk free and it starts first kick.

I put Stabil in the tank in the fall, then take the bike for a last ride and shut it down. Fires up in the spring with no problemo!
