Malcolm Smith of On Any Sunday fame says he will start selling banned youth motorcycles starting this coming Thursday. He has put up a Web site for this endeavor:

www.kidslove2ride.com/

I say that if other dealers follow Malcolm's lead, they deserve our support!

the freakin government big brother nazi's have gone to far with this one if i didn't have motorcycles as a kid and had not developed the love i have for them now where the hell would i be. and better yet what would i have done to fill this void that would definitly be there if not for bikes. i have never found anything in my life that i have enjoyed so much and has taken me places and done things that i never would have been able or aware of if it hadn't been for bikes. if a man as well respected as malcom smith is is willing to incur the rath of the government we should all back him up, what is next if they take bikes away from the kids is this just the start of a complete shut down of motorcycles and with that our freedoms that we all value so highly. i have said this before and i'm sure i'll say it again the government should be afraid of the people not the other way around. i'm so glad they are there to protect us from ourselves yet again.

"Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 prohibits the sale of youth motorcycles and ATVs deemed unhealthy for children under 12 due to suspected high-levels of lead content."

Good grief Charlie Brown, how many kids under the age of 12 have a hearty enough appetite to eat a motorcycle or ATV? Maybe all motor vehicles that contain a lead acid battery should also be banned to keep these metal munching munchkins from digesting them as well. What's next - fishing weights, x-Ray protective vests, lead lined crucibles used in the manufacture of titanium? These damned kids are a menace I tells ya!

I can see some guy coming up with replacement body kits for the bikes and making a million. There are thousands of bikes sitting in warehouses not being able to be sold. Maybe they could sell them without the body and people could by after market kits?

Body kits make no difference. Lead content in such items as the sparkplugs, internal parts, and battery terminals are cited as reasons for the ban.

It is actually the CPSC and it looks like they are using a somewhat stretched interpretation of the law to enforce this ban. If it works, they will shoot themselves in the foot - because it will also mean they must ban almost any thing with a rechargable battery that a child/youngster may come in contact with - effectively banning all automobiles!

Way to go, Malcolm. I'm sure he has under-the-table backing from the motorcycle and atv importers association as well as various dealer associations. It'll be interesting to see what happens. Screw the nanny state, I say !!!!
