Two of my sons and I are into two new motorcycle projects. They arn't KZ's so I thought motorcycle related would be the place to post this thread.

First project is with my 16 year old, Dustin. We went to a local swap meet last week and picked up this really clean and complete 1978 Kawasaki KE125 for a song. It does need a new piston and a pipe .... otherwise some general maintenance and she'll be ready for the road. I figured it would make a good trainer for Dustin !

For our second project ... we have a 1978 Honda CX500 ... soon to be a cafe style bike. Jason, 32 years old, picked this near mint CX500 up for $500 ... in running and riding condition all but for the front brakes. We started stripping it down for cleaning and maintenence when we discoved the lines of this bike would lend itself to the Cafe style very easily. Whatcha all think ?

We found a Ducati racing bike tail cone at the local bike boneyard ... cool 'eh !

Nice projects. I hope my kids are in to projects like that when they get older. Would be fun to work on something together like that.

I've seen a few cafe'd CX's and they were nice, they lend themselves to that style.

Keep us updated.

The CX500 is a nice bike. Slow as Christmas but has the typical Honda reliability. Check out this CX500 cafe www.caferacer.net/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC...00&SearchTerms=cx500

The car in the background is my 1966 Pontiac Bonneville 4 door hardtop ... it's been in the family for years. Since 1976 I think. It don't need too much ... biggest problem is the tranny needs rebuilt and a paint job.

Two great projects. My 14 year old son is helping me along the way with my KZ. Someone should start a Father Son Thread. You should of let us guess for a while on the old Pontiac...Russ

Doesn't that Pontiac have a clear steering wheel?

that 125 is a great bike...you could build an endure....or!!! a vintage mini supermoto....my friends growing up would make a street mini roadracer, lowered forks street shoks, upside down bars and small sticky street tires ,and put cones out at an industrial parking lot on sudays.....so much fun ,helmets, gloves ,duct tape and cardboard knee pucks.......or just some killer high school transpo.....
the cx is gonna be fun heres a pic i found...there is a bunch of em(cafe cx 500) on google images

GOOD DAD...very,very,cool...thanks for the pictures...peace craig

Dale my only piece of advice is keep the tractor keys away from Becca and you'll do fine with your two new projects.

Poor Becca ... she'll never live the tractor incedent down ... LMAO

Russ, Yes the Bonneville has a clear steering wheel.

As for the 125 .... I'm thinking a restoration is in order here .... the bike is very, very, original and complete !!! It will make great High School transportation for Dustin.

Very cool!

Picked up my first bike at 16 which got my dad back into riding. Three years later he just bought his second bike this week and I just bought my fifth :P
