the early fz 600 bikes are going sooooo cheap used with clean ones that have low miles....then you never have to apologize for the weak spots of a turd bike...also the early 500 interceptors are really good deals and some clean ones are around.....i never tell some one to get a peice of shit for the first bike cuase they are gonna want better after a month or so and gonna know their bikes sucks bad in everyones eyes ...makes riding a whole lot better if the bike you have is cool too...how about a clean yamaha xs 650 with the midnight step down seat...now there is a great first time bike.....do you give someone a yugo for their first car so the are safer and can learn the basics??????

My Mom rode a Honda 750 Four in the seventies, and she was 5'2" She had custom struts that lowered it, and get this, custom boots that had car tire tread nailed to the bottoms. I guess elevator shoes were hip back then. She past away last July:( and as I was going through her stuff I came across the boots and a patch that reads "MY MOMMY RIDES A HONDA". I kept the patch and the boots. I credit her for my love of motorcycles.

Nice looking bike though, and only a 30.3" (not feet) seat height. On the other hand, I wouldn't write off an older Rebel - the older versions aren't too "cruiserish" and the twin makes them smoother than a single - and they are VERY low! I agree, they won't break any speed records, but they are probably an ideal beginner bike!

She may think she likes the sports bike type until she rides one, unless she'd already riden one. The position is so uncomfortable for long rides and intimidating especially for a new rider. Don't get me wrong I love superbikes as well. I bought my wife (new rider as well) a 2006 Kawasaki Vulcan 500. She loves it and she's only 5'2". She can paddle with both feet in a slow turn and being so comfortable, she learn and improve a lot faster. Well, whatever she's happy with I guess. Every thing is possible when you put your mind to it. Good luck and happy riding!!

The idea about going to bike shops, new and used, sounds good to me, find out what she can sit on and what she likes, after all shes the one that going to ride it.
I know some of the older honda shadows are low, dated a lady that was about 5-2 and thats what she rode, it was a vt700, nice riding bike.

For rel. new, the 250's , hondas Nighthawk. Suz. GV250, Kaw. Ex250. If you've the inclination.and are handy. I recently (2 years ago) was persuaded to teach a friend to ride. The smallest thing in my stable was a KZ550A1.but by dropping forks, using 12" shocks and cutting seat down, managed a platform she was able to manage. Abett/w platform boots. I doubt she's 5" and had a tough time w/clutch pull at 1st. but managed. If you can coax her into learning on a faux chopper IE XV250 virago or it's like, You'll acclerate her learning curve, and have a better chance at gaining a valuable riding partner. My late wife was 5'2 and rode a stock KZ650 very well. Indeed better than I at times. Luck G
