Looking for info on very old Kawasaki streetbike

I just aquired a new old street bike and I do not know what it is. It is definitely a Kawasaki as it says that on there. It also says T-90 and it is a 90cc engine. Bought from original owner who still had legible paperwork from 1963 for parts he had purchased for the bike. He claims it was 2-3 years old at that time.

Any help would be appreciated.

I would sure appreciate that. Have quite a few bits and pieces of old Kawasaki bikes around so even if its not for the one I asked about I would still be interested.

I've never heard of a T90. This is going to be a revelation, that's for sure. Maybe the model designation is a leftover from Meguro's lineup ???

Kano, that bike in your link is probably too new to be anything in the early 60's. The bike in the link looks like it has Autolube injection and it definitely has a rotary valve, so it's probably a 66 or newer.
All the early bikes, both Meguro (and later, Kawasaki) used premix engines and had piston porting.
Can't wait for some pics !!!!:woohoo: B)

It has no rotary valve, no autolube.

Nothing shown yet is quite like it. Wish I had a pic right now to upload but should have one shortly. I did buy the bike just kept it elsewhere for a few days as it is quite a ways away from me.

Says Kawasaki on the fuel tank. T-90 Emblems on side covers. No other numbers or markings were noticed and I did have a good look as I had no idea what this was.

Seems to be before the rotary valve and autolube where common.

I am in Canada if that makes any difference and he said he bought it here, in Edmonton Alberta anyways.

Only thing for sure the guy could tell me about it was that it was older than 1963 and that it had a 6 horsepower 90cc engine and that you had to premix your fuel. He also did not want to let it go and said lots of people looked and no one would buy it. The man in his mid 60's seemed to need the money from selling it. Had many things for sale. He had every invoice from any parts or repairs on it, from 1963 to 1971, all in his name and any that had the model refered to it as a Kawasaki t-90 Not a single part number on any bill. Only parts were for the generator or basic maintainance items. Bike not drove since 1971 but kept inside in running order. Fired right up when I went to look at it.

Will post pics when I get them.

Any more info would be great

To 650ED

I once had one of these in poor shape. I believe it was a 1965 90cc Scrambler. This new one I acquired at least looks older in design.

Forgot to mention that the first bill I have from this bike is dated November 2, 1963 and I know Meguro and Kawasaki merged in 1963 - Is it possible this could be a Meguro bike with a kawasaki name on it?

Anyone know where to find any info on Meguro. Found 1 potential good site but its all in Japanese.

Well, I thumbed through some info I have and there is good news and bad news. The good news is that I have frame and engine series numbers for all models imported into the US from 1963 on. The official date of Kawasaki's entrance into the US market was 1963. The bad news is that I have no info on anything not imported into the US. It is possible that bikes brought into Canada may have been routed through the US initially (see the importation history of all Canadian Z1's in 1972/3, for example) suggesting that Kawasaki entered the market in NA in 1963 also. Additional bad news suggests that Kawasaki didn't import a 90cc into the US until 1967 (prior to that those class bikes were 85cc or less). The info you have suggests it may be a 'gray' bike that someone imported from Japan (I have one of those...the Z2A) and there is very little info on what the Japanese produced for the Asian market. What I suggest is that you either post the frame/motor VIN (or PM me if you aren't comfortable what being 'outed':P ) and I'll compare it to the number series I have...for the PO, stories sometimes change through time as do memories.

Sean, I can't wait for the pics....and you're in the Chuk, too. Small world.
Get her cleaned up and put her in the World of Wheels CVMG display. People will crap bricks just seeing it....or anyone knowing about Kawasaki will. I think you have a real piece of Big K history there, buddy. I'm glad you rescued it.:woohoo: B)
