Folks: I just sent this email to EZY-DVD of Australia:
*************
Dear Sir and/or Ma'am:

I am writing to request confirmation that item Stone (2 Disc Set) (798461) can be viewed on DVD players in the United States and Canada.

According to your FAQ webpage, since this DVD is listed as Region 1,2,3,4,5,6; it should be viewable on US players.

Normally I would just buy the DVD based on the above, but I actually already purchased a PAL version on this movie from EZY-DVD several years ago. Instead, I am disseminating this information to several large groups of motorcycle enthusiasts (as represented in internet forums) in the US and Canada, many of whom have expressed interest in viewing this movie but have encountered difficulty in finding a compatible version.

These internet forums are:
BTK Kawasaki Motorcycle Forum www.kawasakimotorcycle.org/forum/index.php
KZ Rider www.kzrider.com/
Worldwide Z1/Z900 Community wwz1z900oc.multiply.com/

I look forward to a favorable response. Thank you very much for your time.

The link to the actual DVD info is here: www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/798461
Currently out of stock, but it sounds like if there is enough interest they can get some more.

If I get a reply I'll post it as well.

OK, I feel stupid now. Just looked at the webpage for the movie again, it clearly states the movie is in PAL format. D-oh!

Since the US is NTSC, I guess we're SOL.

OK, since I really hate leaving everyone in a lurch, you can do what I did.
Get yourself one of these code free, multi system DVD players:
www.codefreedvd.com/
Then you can watch PAL stuff as well as NTSC.

Kinda sux that you can't just buy the STONE DVD, but hey if you're in the market for a new DVD player anyway...

Thanks for that, Bill. Interesting that those guys actually modify or replace the chip that prevents you from watching other formats. It's crazy that stupid copyright rules make such a thing necessary in the first place.

I bought my copy of Stone several years ago from EZY-DVD. After I got the DVD I went and found a code that unlocked all the regions for my particular DVD player. Since then I've had no problem playing the DVD even though it is Region 9 and PAL formatted.

I agree with you, this regional coding and video system is all non free trade BS. There are many countries where the only DVD players you can get are multi-system multi-region ones because all DVDs are imported. Probably cost manufacturers about ten cents to make all their players multi region/multi system, but instead we get screwed. Heck, from what StreetfighterKz says, sounds like all players have the capability already, you just need the right code to unlock the feature.

Sounds like that new Toyota FJ cruiser. Whether this is fact or not I don't know, but one FJ owner told me all of the hardware to lock the front diff is already in place, all an owner has to do is to buy a $250 computerized switch and install.

AWESOME! Great link, thanks!

EDIT: I've also been informed that Nero 7 (or higher) incorporates a PAL to NTSC convertor.

And here is the reply from EZY-DVD:

Hello Bill,
This title will indeed work on US and Canadian DVD players as it is a multi-regional release; however, you would need to ensure that your TV is PAL compatible for it to work properly (most recent TVs are both NTSC and PAL compatible).
Sincerely, Eric
