Some guys have all the luck

I was talking to a buddy of mine last week and he told me this story. Evidently another friend of his called and was looking for a new bike to keep him "scared" and wondered if the old 1000 Kawasakis would do it. John said yeah, but an 1100 Yamaha would do better (John's a Yamaha guy). "Well there's one at this auction and I just bought it." John went over that night to see it and he described it to me as that light blue kz with the little windshield and factory kerker/kawasaki 4 into 1 headers that was damn cherry. It had some funky looking handles back by the passenger and John said it looked like saddlebag mounts. So they both went back for the auctions 2nd day (which was the household stuff - day 1 was the barn/garage stuff). There amongst a bunch of old suitcases were matching hard bags same color as the bike.

matching bags $20

I told my buddy if the guy wants to make some money I can put him in touch with a whole bunch of slobbering fools who would at least quadruple his investment.

I guess there was also a KZ1300 that went for $1400 at this auction, plus a bunch of electric heated riding suits.

These stories always make me wonder. I'd have to see a cherry Z1R sell for $450 in person to believe it true. Some guys "cherry" is in a whole different league as another. Reminds me of a couple guys, one was a dealer that sold used motorcycles here in Denver. He was always calling me or one of my buddys and saying he had a "cherry" or "mint" H2 or Z1. After a while we just joked and said to him cherry or mint meant it still had 2 wheels and could tell it "was" a motorcycle at one time.
The other was a guy who answered a paper add for 2 "1953 Chevys" for $400. Ho got there and found 2 1953 Corvettes for $400, mint too. They didn't know Corvette was maybe more valuable that a plain chevy in 1953? Just a little hard to imagine. Get a picture of this cherry Z1R and I'll bet there's good reason it was $450.
