Re: 1977 kz900 Rare??
02 Jan 2009 20:10Frame No. Range Z1F-510341 - 515578
According to Zedder www.zedder.com/Info/77%20KZ900-A5.htm
Looks like a little over 5000 according to the frame numbers.

I could be wrong for sure, but in my experience, the 77 KZ900 is the exact same as the 76 KZ900 both in style and value. Actually my guess is very few wanted a KZ900 in 1977 when the KZ1000 was released, but Kawasaki had to get them out the door. Last of the line is probably not the collector choice. Not to say I dislike them for sure, just no more value than a 76 I don't think.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I think the other KZR members have this pretty well pegged...and there seems to be mythology associated with this bike. It has been assumed (and compounded in the literature, e.g. see Marsden) that just a 'few' rolled off the line in Lincoln prior to the inception of the KZ1000 line in late 1976. If www.zedder.com is to be believed, then 5000 units is a bit more than a 'few'. Additionally, as was pointed out by Ron, they are identical to the A4 and differ only in VIN. As for value, the most recent (and last issue, alas) of Vintage Motorcycles Guide values the A5 less than the A4...if you need the exact figures, PM me.

Value wise - no difference. Being assembled in Lincoln, they are unique to the North American market. There were no 1977 900's elsewhere.
The bikes are basically the same as the 1976 model. There are a few minor differences - the flasher circuit used a solid-state relay - and on some of the bikes towards the very end of the run, the front end used a few 1000 parts.
