Looking for someone close by who knows a little more than I do when it comes to KZ engines. I'm currently having some valve issues with my '77 650 (I guess). I am a newbie to all this and really don't know what to look for. I really do not want to take the bike to the dealer to get it fixed...I'd like to learn myself if there's someone willing to help out...via phone, e-mail, in person, whatever. Thanks, Nate.

Send a PM to aria60.

He's a local there. If I posted his pic it'd probably discourage you so just be ready.

Nate, I think you will get discouraged calling Kaw dealers. I doubt ANY will work on your bike. They mostly only work on newer bikes... less than 10 years old for the most part. I think the best thing would be to buy a Clymers and factory service manual. Look through them. You will note that first, there are tune up steps that should be done in a certain order and both will give you the tune up steps in that order. The valve thing just requires you can read and have the correct hand tools. Make sure you have decent sockets and wrenches and a hand impact driver. After reading a specific section, other supplies might suggest themselves; such as a a set of feeler gauges, a shim kit and a new valve cover in the case of the valve clearance stuff. Take your time when you work and it helps to have a heated place out of the elements. You can likely do any basic maintenance stuff and you have a support group to answer questions right here.
