Harbor Freight Brake Bleeder: On Sale $20.... was created by Old Man Rock
Hey all,

In my conversion project to dual front brakes (Tokico), I've been having one hell of a time bleeding all the air out of these lines. I followed the manuals 100% and confirmed I had no leaks in the bajo bolts or distribution block/master cylinder but still had mushiness until I pumped the hand brake lever 5-10 times. Then after an hour or so, it would slowly go back to mush!

With that in mind, auto parts stores had brake bleeding units at ~ $50. Went to harbor freight and for $20 bought this little beauty, figured what the hell did I have to loose.

Wholly crap, WTF was wrong with me not to do this previously is baffling, how easy can it be.

Took less than 2 minutes to fully and accurately bleed the air from the front brake lines.

Worth every penny! ;)

I have had one of those for awhile now, and they work pretty good, I just didn't want to admit shopping at Harbor Freight :P

hahahahaha... I hear ya!

Same time, for tools you're only going to use once or twice meaning not on a daily job then these work rather well and normally are half the price, sometimes even more.

Example: Dewalt hand grinder $80, the orange Chinese HF grinder $19.99. I have been using the hell out of that grinder in my project and she's still kicking. When it finally breaks, I'll buy another one for $19.99 and still save money...

OMR is a cheap bastard!

That's a great deal on a bleeder. I bought one several years ago and it's been a great additional to my collection. I'm positive I change my fluid more often than i had in the past simply because it's so much easier.

The HF store is one of the few things I miss about living in Terre Haute, now I have to drive to Peoria or Davenport to get to one. Now it's a road trip rather than a quick stop. Since I load up when I'm there, it's much more difficult to fly under the radar too. B)

Does anyone else agree that a brake bleeder system works better than the old-fashioned way?

I am desperate to get my brakes working and I've spent hours bleeding and tried all the tricks to get them to work. I've held the calipers above the master cylinder with the bleeder on top, strapped the lever and pedal down over night and bled again, rode it a while and bled again, etc...

Every part was rebuilt and is all new, including the brake lines. I am considering an expensive bleeder system (see link below) but after seeing this thread I might try the harbor freight item. I've seen that one at my local HF store.

Anyway, do these things really make a difference??

Thanks!

expensive as hell brake bleader

Hey, thanks for the tip. I'm going to pick one up. Someone else said in a thread somewhere to get a big syringe and tubing and feed the fluid up through the bleeder. I had a hell of a time last time bleeding my brakes....

"79MKII Does anyone else agree that a brake bleeder system works better than the old-fashioned way?"

I use a KD-2222 pressure tank along with an adapter I made from a spare brake reservoir cap. It works so well I can do front and rear in just a few minutes. Unfortunately, the tank cost nearly $200 and the only reason I could afford such luxury is that I also use it for our truck and 3 cars (so my wife bought it several years ago for Christmas). If you can get access to one (maybe a friend at a service station) it makes life easy. If anyone needs pics of adapter, let me know. Ed

Speed bleeders combined with the old fashioned way. Once I got all of the old fluid out and flushed the front just fine. But I wouldn't mind this the next time.
