I doubt that the ones that are saying that you don't need insurance if you work on it at a customers house have ever been in business for themselves. The only way to avoid insurance is to be judgment proof, to have absolutely nothing that a creditor can take. Even being incorporated won't shield you, if a Judge decides that you are personally responsible. then you're toast.
Liability insurance is a must if you have any assets you'd like to keep.

great advice george!
the only thing i can offer is you better make hay in the summer when you can because winter has some lean months in the repair buiness.
people tend to put the general repairs on the back burner during the winter.
then come spring, your slammed.
i've found plenty who plan on a winter rebuild but very few who actually do it.
