didn't now which part of the forum to put this but here goes.
what should i be expectimg from my z650c1? have had manily modern jap race reps before, everthing from rd350ypvs gsxr 400 ksp to a 0w01 that i had for a few weeks.
it pulls pretty well to about 85 90mph and will just about top the ton, was expecting more. now i know its a 30 year old bike but it should be quicker than that.
it has some pod filters and a unkown pipe on it so the jetting is a unkown. it has a new loom and coils and has had top end rebuild. starts first kick and seems good just lacks any real go.
guess its time to start collecting parts for a tweeked motor.
cheers rob

If it's running good it should hit somewhere around 110 mph.

A properly tuned stock KZ650 will run a shade under 120mph (119) and do the quarter mile in a little over 13 seconds (13.19)in the hands of a skilled rider. If the previous owner changed the exhaust and air cleaner (and maybe some otehr stuff that doesn't show) there's no way to figure how he may have impacted performance, but unless he was a professional the odds are he didn't help it. You may want to consider putting it back in stock specs as a baseline then working on improving it from there if thats not peppy enough. Here's a link to a road test from back in the day that includes performance stats:

I would start off with the basics, check compression, valves, fuel filter, timing, new plugs, points if you still have them, and the advancer.
That will give you a base to work off of, then look at the carbs to see about the jetting.
also if someone changed the gearing on the bike that may be the reason it "runs out on you "
