You have a 1981 KZ1100B1 aka GPz1100 (in Europe and Australia they are known as Z1100B1). I am not sure there is an F1 model, perhaps you read FI (Fuel Injection)? You probably won't find much on the bike on the web...there were approximately 10,000 made and most have probably been thrashed or wrecked. Early model Kawasaki FI had a less than sterling reputation and many of the G, H, and B (all FI) series bikes were converted to carbs. Some of this concern was justified...some was unwarranted. The FI systems on the KZ1000G, Z1000H, and KZ1100B1 differed from the KZ1100B2 in that they were electronically fuel injected and the FI were located directly in the head w/separate throttle bodies. The B2 model was digitally fuel injected and the FI were associated with the throttle bodies. At this stage (e.g. before you get your bike) I would counsel you to purchase a genuine Kawasaki shop manual (eBay...the source of all things Kawasaki). The manual is quite good and will answer many of your questions...you should be able to easily locate one on eBay for less than US$30.00 (the front cover says KZ1000 KZ1100, (on rear cover) Kawasaki part number 99924-1026-03.

Bike is on the way, no matter what, he was in a bind and I am always looking for a project. It sounds like the B2 model was a better set up, can the earlier version be converted or is it just easier and cheaper to go to carbs? Thanks.I ve had bike my whole life but this is first Kawasaki.

Actually, it would be easier to convert to carbs on the B2 model as the B1 model has four extra holes in it (the fuel injector ports) that must be plugged when carbs are installed. It would entail filling the ports w/epoxy or replacing the head from a normally aspirated bike. You might consider conversing with George Lesho ( www.wgcarbs.com ) on carb conversion. He knows how to do it and what the anticipated costs might be.:)

Care to explain the difference between "electronically fuel injected" and "digitally fuel injected"?

I've never understood the distinction, since they are both electronic and they're both digital.

I've seen mechanical fuel injection, and I've seen digital fuel injection, but I can't recall any analog electronic fuel injection.

Meanwhile, back to finish soldering my digital fuel injection computer together (MegaSquirt).
Unfortunately, due to my installing a 2002 3100 in my 92 Beretta, it's going on the Beretta and I'll have to buy another one for my 750E :(

Sure...that's how they are defined in the Kawasaki shop manual:) 99924-1026-03 What the nuances are, escapes me.
