Recession, Inflation, or high gas prices? Seems like vintage KZs in my region are up.
Here's the L.A. Craigslist for today:
'82 KZ1000 $2700
'81 KZ750 $1500
'00 KZ1000P $3000
'75 KZ400 $1100
'82 KZ1000 $2500
'95 KZ1000P $2300
'78 KZ1000LTD $1200
And then there's this bad boy, with no price listed:

Looks the makings of a sellers market. Good news for those of you with more bikes than you can ride (like The Gringo, maybe? ;) )

'96 Voyager XII (Dark Star)
'79 KZ650 Cafe Project (Dirty Kurt)

Probably due to all the folks shifting to bikes because of high gas prices. A new 250 is almost impossible to find, lots of folks are remembering about the old UJM stashed in a corner of the garage. If they aren't riding it themselves they want to sell for a pretty penny. I betcha once the first cold miserable rainy fall day comes along, prices will plummet.

And, I'll be waiting...hehehe

Yeah, I think prices are up a bit...but what I am seeing more, is an increase in the prices of bikes that are not quality scooters. Certainly, quality bikes have increased somewhat but what is driving the market appears to be bikes that could have been had for much cheaper several years ago. For example, a ratty 1979 KZ1000LTD might be offered for US$2500 whereas it was have been offered for US$1000 several years ago...in contrast, a decent rebuild of a 1979 KZ1000LTD has not doubled in price:huh:

Hey, hey now, I can ride most of mine (the ones that run anyway) just not at the same time. So far this year I've ridden 6 different bikes. I usually ride one for a week or so then switch to another one. I still need to get the 550 LTD out and the 750 L-3 is also on the list of bikes that need to be ridden, even though I hate riding that sucker. Possibly if I get ambitious I'll finish up the 750 LTD and ride it some before the snow starts to fly.

If you want a hoot, go look at the bikes for sale on eBay in the OTHER MAKES section... at least 50 different Chinese bike and scooter types are listed, I bet. Soon the Chinese will be flooding the US and probably start selling larger displacement stuff as most of the scooters are 150cc and most of the bikes 250cc. I was over in Devine day before yesterday as I got some tubes installed in my quote tubeless unquote shafty rims. The owner of the small shop there, Ray of Cycle Works told me he had several of these Chinese bikes in for repair; no two seemed to be of the same manufacture and none could be repaired because of lack of parts. All had broke with either a few miles or hours (ATVs) and there is no product support. Take Pep Boys selling those little ATVs and bikes... apparantly they can't even title them proper and folks who try registering them for the street and getting insurance have lots of issues not to mention Pep Boys won't fix them if they break and have no parts. Some of the Chinese manufacturers will figure out they need a dealer support network and probably jump out ahead of the pack and start doing well with the small displacement market likely to heat up due to gas prices. Glad to see it. I have three but the wife will only let me license/insure two. I just use the third one for a needy part until I can buy a replacement. I used the down time to do a ring and valve job. All it needs now is a new battery to fire it up.....chris3

A friend looked into the cheap crap 4 wheelers a couple of years ago, he was telling me you could buy a truck load of them for 150.00 each, and they were selling for 600.00 at the time.
The parts and reapir problem stopped him from buying them, he didnt want to have to deal with pissed people

I paid $1400 for my bike and a couple people told me I paid too much.

You really can't get a decent bike for less than $1500 here, never have been able to.

Oh, and yeah, I've seen all those wacky Chinese things...I wouldn't buy one.
