My new bike!!!

As many of you already may know from a previous post, I have recently purchased a new motorcycle. It is slightly different than the rest of those in my collection. It is a 1971 Yamaha R5 350cc 2-stroke(very similiar to the yamaha Rd350 which replaced the R5 in 1973). It seems to be in pretty good condition and only has 8600 original miles. It has a few dings and dents here and there(which I emphasize in the pictures), but the main problem is the gas tank. It has 2 large dents on the front left and right side from where the forks are hitting it. The petcocks were removed which allowed the tank to collect debris and is probably rusty. It is missing the points cover. The previous owner said that both coils burned out and he didnt want to spend the money for new ones. It didnt seem right that both coils went bad, so I spent some time working on the wiring harness. After a little work, a new battery, and some new fuses it started right up. sounds great, runs great, and cant wait to take her for a spin!!! :laugh: :silly:

Wow nice find there and for a hundred bones quite a good deal as well. Why can't I ever find stuff like that?......Oh wait, I do find stuff like that I just end up having to drive 500 miles to get them. I'm sure you will have some fun with that one. I'm jealous.

That's cool. I rode up to Mount Evans yesterday 14200 ft above sea level and saw a 1972 R5 up there as well as an old Kawasaki H1 among others. Neat bikes.

Thanks, It seems to be a pretty nice bike. Looked everywhere trying to find a kawasaki H2, with no luck. When I saw this i figured it was as close as I was giong to get. Turns out they can be pretty mean little machines!

I know what you mean when you say its hard to find good old bikes anywhere. Here in South Dakota it seems like you can always find an old jap bike in a barn. A coworker of mine says that he has had no interest in bikes but his father has accumulated a collectino of 20-30 old 70's-80's bikes. Looks like I'me going to go treasure hunting. And also check out a post of mine called HIDDEN TREASURE or something like that. Stumbled upon some cool stuff that day.
