possible bike purchase $100. was created by jordan
The other day I happened to come across an interesting looking bike. Almost looked like a dirtbike. Later I found out that it was a 70's yamaha rd 350 2-stroke. From the facts i found on the internet they make about 35 true rwhp. This bike is also VERY light. it ran about a year ago when the owner let it sit in the garage and forgot about it. He said $100 will take it. I was wondering if any of you have had any experience with these bikes or have any opinions on them. I kinda thought it would be a fun little bike to cruise around on. What are your thoughts?

For a Benjamin I'd buy it in a heartbeat. They were little screamers back in the day and they actually handle pretty well too. The same can't be said for 2 stroke triple Kaws from that era. Go ahead get it....you know you want to.:P

I always loved them too. My memory has had too many beers over the years, but I think the RD350 ran from 1973-1975, before that was the R5 which was the same idea, 1976 went to the RD400. My Uncle had a new 71 R5, then my dad got a 1972, then in 73 the RD350 went to a 6 speed transmission was the main improvement. My dad got a new purple 74 then my cousin got a new orange 75. My dad never liked the 2 stroke smoke. Maybe modern oil would be less smoke, but in the old days they were pretty smokey. We drove all over heck with the RDs and they never missed a beat. I got a 1977 Yamaha XT500 when I was 16 years old that was garbage so I talked my dad into trading in both the RD and the XT in on the new KZ650 30 yrs ago and that's the one I still have going with 167,000 on it. Like anything though, price reflects what you're going to get I'm sure so $100 may need a lot of work and I would think parts have gone the way of the Kawasaki triples.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
