No frame numbers but a manufacture number on a swingarm? Hmmm...The reason the frames can be id'd as 1973 is because of the frame VIN. The reason the bikes can be so expense (even partial non-runners) is that motor and frame VIN's 'match' If they are separated, then the value dramatically drops. But then, there are plenty of silly people out there with bags of money...what do I know?
What years came with matching numbers, do you know? I know that cars come like that but didn't realize that bikes did. Very interesting. I could see where having a matching set would really be worth some extra cash.

By 'matching' numbers I meant that the VIN's were within 300 or so of each other, but there a a few rare occurrences of VIN's that are identical. The problem with selling a frame and a numbered case separately is that the odds of stumbling across another frame or motor within that 300 number window are slim so as to create the illusion that you actually have a 'matched' set.
